Stofa takes pay-TV over CI Plus
08.14 Europe/London, September 15, 2011 By Julian Clover

Stofa is to offer its customers access to its Zaptor pay-TV packages directly to their TVs using CI Plus, the first time the common interface modules have been used to this extent.

The implementation will use Irdeto cloaked conditional access and Neotion’s advanced CI Plus module to deliver broadcast TV, VOD and on demand content, saving the Danish cablenet several thousand Kronar on the cost of set-top box deployment.

Thomas Helbo, IP operations and development manager at Stofa said, “Together, Irdeto and Neotion are enabling us to deliver new interactive ways of consuming television that meet our customers’ viewing needs, while helping us to capitalize on a huge market opportunity and create real competitive advantage.”

Stofa is picking up on the uptake of IDTVs that increasingly come with CI Plus connectivity.

“Our solution is solving a very real challenge in the industry,” said Doug Lowther, EVP, digital TV, Irdeto . “Operators have been forced into making a very difficult decision about trading functionality and ARPU for cost savings. Our solution allows them to have the best of both worlds.”

Earlier this week it was announced that the CI Plus common interface technology had reached 100 million CI Plus device certificates as at September 1.
