hi

im thinking of buying an ssd to speed up rainbow table searches. can i just install the drive as a storage drive, i.e not the boot drive with the os and expect faster search speeds?

thanks in advance

Yes, you can just use one as a storage drive and reap the benefit.

I have both. One for my 'C' drive and another just for a RBT.

Works really well.

I intend getting one for each type of RBT eventually.

Speeds up the search for a key dramatically.

Does not speed up chain building.

im planning on getting a 256gb ssd, im just concerned it will take a long time to transfer each table back and forward to my hdd. for example if i need to search 030000h plain i will transfer that table to the ssd and do a search. a 210gb table between hdd and ssd will take a long time?

getting 3 256gb ssd's would be ideal but not on my wages!

Yes, it does take a long time to transfer a table (depending on size) onto the drive ready for a search. That is why I want to eventually get one for each table.

It can take 40 minutes or more to transfer a table over 400GB.

There now normal drives that are almost as fast as SSD's.
They are larger (1TB) and cheaper.
I will probably buy some of these just for my RBT's. Even if it speeds up the key search by 50% I will be happy, but supposedly, they are faster than that but not as fast as an SSD. SSD's have a very limited life too, so you should consider that.
I can't remember how long they are expected to last, but it is nowhere as near as a normal drive.

Follow the link and read the info.

If speed is all important over cost then an SSD is the best option, but as a compromise, these new faster drives are better than normal drives and larger.

If I could at least half the search time of using a normal time, I will be happy.

SSD's are still too expensive as far as I am concerned.

i agree they are too expensive atm. a 1tb hybrid drive is about £90 so thats a much better option

so your saying a 1tb hybrid drive is a good option? what are read speeds like?

an 03 search on a hybrid drive will takes ages if there is no indication which c8 is correct.

Raid 0'ing ssd's is the way to go imo.

You will be gutted when the major feed providers switch to Tandberg though unless you bought your hardware a while back

Great information.

Well, "2 x 240 GB. SSD" drive, is it possible to show as a single disk ?

RBT size of 240 GB. exceeds !
