Spain: Six arrested for stealing pay-TV passwords

Six people have been arrested in the Spanish provinces of Huelva, Barcelona and Valencia, accused of stealing passwords from a pay-TV cable operator in order to sell pirated STBs.
The suspects had access to the cable operator’s servers registering fictitious users. With their passwords they sold pirated STBs that allow other users to watch pay-TV. The group postponed the dates of issue of invoices between 20 to 30 years in order to prevent an alert from being activated due to unpaid bills with the operator not being aware of this in its customer data base.
They are accused of the crimes of fraud, damage to computer systems , discovery and disclosure of secrets and fraud of electricity.
During the operation, officers broke in to three houses where they have impounded 21 hard drives, 34 pirated decoders and 12 computers with thousands of passwords to be used in pirate decoders.
