Spacecom chooses IAI for Amos-6
By Chris Forrester

Israel’s latest satellite Amos-6 will be built by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) under a $200 million contract reportedly awarded on June 24. Spacecom has told the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange that its likely costs for launching the satellite will be some $85 million.

Reports suggest that Space Systems/Loral mounted a very competitive campaign to win the contract.

Amos-6 will be ready for launch in early 2015 although a launch company has yet to be selected.

Amos-6 will take-over the role of Amos-2 at 4 deg West, Spacecom’s key neighbourhood. It will offer extra transponders and spot-beams and operate in both Ku and Ka-bands with a total of 80 transponders.
