Slovenia eyes pay-DTT

January 24, 2017 11.17 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Slovenia is looking into the possibility of launching a pay-DTT service.

Earlier this month the regulator AKOS opened a public consultation in which it invited interested stakeholders, particularly broadcasters, network operators and telco operators, to submit their views on the subject by March 3.

The consultation is also considering the possibility of adopting DVB-T2 technology and the H.265 video codec.

Slovenia currently has two national (A and C) and five local multiplexes that all use the DVB-T standard and H.264 codec to distribute FTA channels.

AKOS says that pay-DTT is now “in full swing” in all neighbouring countries and elsewhere in Europe.

Given the withdrawal of TV channels from free DTT distribution and the vacancies that currently exist in the commercial multiplex C, it has prepared questions as to the possibly of introducing pay-DTT.
