Serbia puts back ASO
March 26, 2013 08.45 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The transition to digital broadcasting in Serbia has been “severely delayed” and will now not be completed until June 17, 2015, according to by Rasim Ljajic, the country’s minister of trade and telecommunications.

Speaking at a roundtable discussion on the digitisation process in Serbia and quoted in the local press, he added that it was so far only 15-20% complete, for the most part thanks to support from the European Union.

He also said that there are funds in the budget for its completion, which should cost less than the anticipated €75 million.

Furthermore, his ministry has until June to complete a transition plan, amend an ordinance on the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting and enact a new electronic media law.

Serbia was initially expected to complete ASO last year.
