David Gorman, 45, admitted he was drunk, and sure enough
his blood-alcohol level was triple the legal limit for drivers. The
difference is what he was driving on the way home from a pub in Exeter,
Devon, England: an "invalid carriage" which attains "a maximum speed of
eight miles per hour and is usually driven at speeds of two to three
miles an hour," said his lawyer. Further, the attorney pointed out,
"There were no pedestrians thrown into the road, or him weaving off the
pavement." Still, Gorman was arrested and, with a blood test and
confession, was convicted and banned from driving for three years.
Gorman doesn't have a driver's license and doesn't drive a car, but the
ban means he's not allowed to drive any motorized conveyance -- he now
must use a manual wheelchair to get around. (Plymouth Herald) ...If you
think that's brutal, wait until you hear what they're planning to do to
guys who walk home from the pub.
