I would like to know which satellites can i receive in Malawi Southern Africa and what equipment/tool can i use to detect satellites i can receive.

you should check www.lyngsat.com. There's plenty of info there...

You should receive Intelsat 902 62'E, Intelsat 906 64'E and Intelsat 7&10 68.5'E for free English channels and you will be able to use a 1.8 or 2.4 diameter C band Dish or 60 to 90 cms for KU band, any model of Strong DVB receiver may be suitable to you.
