Satellite frequency coordination meeting between UAE and Kazakhstan

The United Arab Emirates represented by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) held a coordination meeting with a delegation from Kazakhstan at the TRA headquarters in Dubai from 26-30 August 2012. A number of technical issues with regard to coordinating satellite frequencies were discussed between the two sides.
The UAE delegation, headed by Eng. Khaled Al Awadi, Manager, Space Services in the TRA and included representatives from Al Yah Satellite Communications (Yahsat) and Thuraya Telecommunications, discussed with the visiting delegation issues that covered the coordination of satellite frequencies between the two countries in order to achieve the required level of compatibility, and avoid interferences between different satellite networks and augment the level of services provided to users.
H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General commented: "The meeting reaffirms the UAE's commitment to furthering international cooperation with regard to satellite broadcasting and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) on a whole to serve the interests of all parties. The TRA technical specialist along with specialists from Thuraya and Yahsat discussed with their counterparts issues related to coordinating frequencies to avoid interferences."
Al Ghanim added: "Due to the mutual understanding of the two countries, and the efforts made by the technical teams during the days of the meeting, the results were fruitful and both sides were satisfied with the outcomes. The meeting paved the way forward for more cooperation and coordination between the UAE and Kazakhstan in this regard in the future."
At the beginning of the meeting, technical committees were formed; these committees held meetings in which they discussed the details that will enable the coordination of frequencies for the satellite operators. Technical criteria for the use of frequency spectrum were determined to avoid any interference that might occur between satellite networks of both Countries. Additionally, mechanisms were determined through which both sides can reach solutions with respect to any future incidents or developments.
At the conclusion of the meeting each country expressed their satisfaction on the achievements, and stressed the importance of continued cooperation and coordination between them in the future in order to reach to mutual benefit for the two countries.
