Dear friends,
On eBay we can see that there are original PowerVu boxes for sale.
For this post I'm gonna stick to HD boxes because SD is almost obsolete in premium channels.
Cisco D9858 is offered. With sellers that have good pictures of their devices we can see the UA numbers:
s-l1600.jpg

UA 6013602-2

s-l1600.jpg

UA 5775198-6

If I study the ECM/EMM keys for AFN

P 0009 005C379D D374275FBF4A0F ; AFN Package 9E EMM key
P 0009FFFF 01 A0AD909CB1862F ; added by Emu UA: 005C379D

P 0009 0053F2AC ADFC9B2781CB6B ; AFN Package 9E EMM key
P 0009FFFF 00 879DFF9EC26E68 ; added by Emu UA: 0053F2AC

I see the UA number is hexadecimal. For these two units on offer
6013602 would be 0x5BC2A2
5775198 would be 0x581F5E
At least this looks logical to me.

Old boxes for sale (the brand was Scientific Atlanta then) have a much lover UA number
s-l1600.jpg

UA 2985310 would be 0x2D8D5E

Every PowerVu box has a unique number (I read UA stands for Unique Address) and if you are allowed to view, your decoder will be authorized by the broadcaster through the UA number.

I must admit I don't really know how the people that post the PowerVu EMM keys find them. I assume the Transport Stream is recorded and somehow analyzed.

My question is this:
Can you, with a recording of a PowerVu encrypted Transport Stream, see which boxes are authorized?
Maybe all UA numbers ever produced are in the cycle, I don't know. On de AFN mux it takes about 45 minutes to see the same UA number repeated.

Thanks Arnold.
