Polish telco market consolidates

08.18 Europe/London, September 30, 2011 By Chris Dziadul

Poland’s leading alternative fixed-line telco Netia has agreed to buy its competitor Dialog for PLN944 million (€212.6 million).
It will also buy the data/telephony company Crowley Data Poland for PLN100 million, with both deals requiring the final approval of the competition authority UOKiK.
The acquisition of Dialog is likely to have far-reaching implications for the development of IPTV services in Poland. The company, hitherto owned by KGHM Polska Miedz, already has an operation that offers subscribers over 100 TV channels, VOD, PVR and multiroom, as well as internet access at up to 50 Mbps.
Netia has meanwhile been constructing a network that as of this August was already capable of providing ultra-fast internet access and digital TV services to over 100,000 households
