Polish pay-TV nears saturation

2011 is likely to be the last year of significant growth for the pay-TV market in Poland, which is now close to saturation.
Furthermore, minimal growth in subscriber numbers – certainly among the country’s leading platforms – was probably achieved in the second quarter of this year.
Canvassing the opinions of a group of analysts, Rzeczpospolita says that Cyfrowy Polsat, the county’s leading DTH operation, may have seen zero growth in it subscriber total in Q2, after having ended the first quarter with around 3.47 million.
The DTH platform n meanwhile probably saw its net total grow by only around 30,000 in the second quarter.
With saturation in terms of subscriber numbers approaching – the number of pay-TV homes stands at around 10 million – operators are focusing on the provision of such additional services as internet access and telephony.
