Peled: over-the-top is happening now
08.42 Europe/London, September 11, 2011 By Julian Clover

IBC 2011 – AMSTERDAM. N.DS executive chairman Abe Peled has spoken of the importance of over-the-top and multiscreen television to the technology developer. Speaking at the company’s annual media event for the first time since relinquishing his role as company president, Dr Peled said the next step was already happening as operators extended their output to tablets.

“It is now happening on a scale big enough, Sky has more than a million people connected with their Anytime+, DirecTV, Viasat, and even in India. It is becoming a reality. It has even been endorsed by such technology luminaries as the BBC that hybrid is the way to go, of course they are taking their time getting there, but we think the best compliment is imitation”.

Dr Peled said that N.DS had always made clear that when operators began expanding the number of devices, *** would provide the technology, such as the Unified Headend or VideoGuard Connect in order to have the entitlements handled in a single place rather than through separate silos. “It’s not like HBO Go, where you give your password to all your best friends, it really is coupled with your entitlements”.

Dr Peled anticipated that the majority of N.DS customers would offer Go-type services. He said pay-TV operators were best placed to pick up library rights from Hollywood studios ever-ready to make the next deal.
