March 4, 2013 08.47 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The pay-DTT service MinDig TV Extra is becoming an increasingly important player in Hungary’s TV market.

Data published by the regulator NMHH shows that the Antenna Hungária-owned operation ended January with 81,924 subscribers and claimed an 8.2% stake of the wireless broadband services sector.

However, the latter was still dominated by Digi (35.2%), T-Home (29.4%) and UPC Direct (24.6%), with the MMDS service Hello HD in last place (2.6%).

Meanwhile in the wired sector, UPC was in top spot (27.6%), followed by T-Home (20.2%) and Digi (18%).

Overall, irrespective of technology, UPC was the leading provider of subscription services (26.7%), followed by Digi (23.2%), T-Home (23.0%) and Invitel (3.4%), with MinDig TV claiming 2.5%. As of the end of January, there were a total of 1,852,198 digital TV subscriptions in Hungary.

Of these, 915,451 were wireless (DTH and MMDS) and 854,823 wired (cable and IPTV).
