ORF Thek joins UPC Austria
July 26, 2012 17.53 Europe/London By Julian Clover

ORF has added its TVthek catch-up TV service to the UPC cable network in Austria.

The public broadcaster launched its service online in 2009 and subsequently added mobile capability. The latest move gives instant access to the ORF library to 300,000 UPC Digital customers.

“ORF TVthek is an important innovation project for ORF, which is used by the audience as an additional service to the ORF TV channel family. This cooperation with UPC is another important pathway that makes us accessible to our audience,” said ORF director-general Dr Alexander Wrabetz.

“As the largest cable TV provider in Austria, we are a guarantor for modern TV services,” added Thomas Hintze, CEO of UPC Austria. Our high growth rates for video-on-demand have encouraged us to work on this partnership with ORF.”

Earlier this week UPC Austria announced a 30% increase in viewing to its VOD service.
