Orange strengthens Spanish schedule

By adding new channels and some of Canal+'s channels, Orange TV intends to strengthen its position in a very active Spanish market, almost a year after it launched a renewed pay-TV offer which is not achieving the anticipated figures.

The pay-TV service of the French telco has reinforced its sports schedule by adding the Canal+ premium network Sportmania and its music offer with 40 TV and Latin entertainment through Caracol TV. In addition, it has launched Orange Arena, a self-produced channel to focus on Spain's ACB national basketball league.

In addition to the four new networks included in the regular package, Orange subs can also pay extra for Canal+1, a premium signal with movies, series and selected football games, and Canal+Liga, a channel including all the matches of Spain's national competitions and many from international leagues.

After several years without really succeeding in the Spanish market, Orange TV was relaunched almost 12 months ago, reforming the service with HD, multiscreen and video-on-demand (VOD) through IPTV.

The platform is designed for ADSL users, but can also be used by 3G and 4G customers through an Android and iOS app.

Although it is actually on the increase, Orange TV is still far from the 150,000 customers which it planned to reach by the end of 2014.
