Online advertising to exceed $100 billion by 2016
10.29 Europe/London, October 21, 2011 By Robert Briel

Global online advertising revenues will reach $106.22 billion in 2016, almost double the $58.16 billion recorded in 2010, according to a new report from Digital TV Research. The Online Advertising Forecasts report covers 40 countries.

The US will remain the dominant territory for online advertising revenues. However, its share of online advertising revenues will drop from 41% in 2010 (when the US recorded revenues of $23,950 million) to 38% in 2016 ($39,980 million). Although Japan ($8,129 million) will retain second place in 2016, China will be hot on its heels. China’s online advertising revenues will grow from $2,600 million in 2010 to $7,689 million in 2016.

For this report, online advertising is defined in net terms (rate card prices less discounts, agency commissions and production costs). These figures are for advertising expenditure via fixed broadband, and therefore do not include mobile advertising.
