Numéricable to announce new set-top
11.17 Europe/London, January 5, 2012 By Robert Briel

French cable operator Numéricable is poised to launch a new set-top box for its customers on January 10. Called the One Power Box, the new device should compete head-on with the Neufbox Evolution and Freebox Révolution for IPTV.

Details of the new box remain sketchy, but French online news service Univers Freebox gives a few details, which indicates that the One Power Box is Numéricable’s version of Liberty Global’s Horizon set-top.

The website said the One Power Box will contain a DOCSIS 3.0 modem capable of broadband speeds up to 200 Mbps. Also included are Wi-Fi and VOIP capabilities.

With regards to television, the box will contain four tuners, which can show two PIPs (picture-in-picture) on a single screen. The One Power Box also offers an ‘innovative mosaic channel’, which integrated the VOD offer.

The programmable remote control also offers a full keyboard (awerty for the French!), and apps are available for connected TV access to sites and services such as Twitter, Facebook and Dailymotion.

Also included is a hard disk of 160 GB, which can be extended to 500 GB. Also, a Blu-ray player is available as an option.
