November launch for UK PBS

The US Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) is to make its UK debut on November 1 as part of Sky’s entertainment package.
A joint venture between PBS Distribution and the Canadian entrepreneur David Lyons, PBS will include the Ken Burns documentary Prohibition, together with its Nova science and Frontline documentary strands as part of a mix of news, sports, documentary and science.
PBS has hired Richard Kingsbury, the former head of UKTV’s Good Food and Yesterday channels, as its general manager.
Although PBS is a co-producer of dramas including Downton Abbey and Sherlock, it is unlikely that the shows will find a place on the channel.
