More DTT for Poland
10.46 Europe/London, December 14, 2011 By Chris Dziadul

Poland will see the launch of a FTA package of DTT channels on its first multiplex tomorrow (December 15).

According to Rzeczpospolita, it will initially consist of TVP1, TVP2, TVP Info, Eska TV and Polo TV and be available in Warsaw, Zielona Góra, Wisla, Rzeszów and Zagan.

However, by June next year, ahead of the Euro 2012 football championships, its coverage will extend to 92% of the country.

Its line-up will then also include two more new channels (TTN, owned by Stavka and the national commercial broadcaster TVN) and ATM Rozrywka TV (backed by Zygmunt Solorz), along with a HD sports channel from TVP.

The channels in the package are likely to pay the national transmission company Emitel around PL50 million (€10.9 million) a year in distribution fees.

TVP will account for 50% of the total and seek additional capacity for its new HD channel.
