MGM output deal for Sky D
July 30, 2013 07.54 Europe/London By Robert Briel

mgm-hd-launch-testcardSky Deutschland and MGM Television (MGM) have extended a long-term output agreement granting Sky the rights to continue to air MGM’s theatrical releases.

Through this agreement, Sky secures exclusive pay TV and S-VOD rights for Sky Anytime and Sky Go to MGM’s latest films. In addition, the companies have announced a long-term exclusive carriage renewal agreement for the MGM HD Channel on the Sky platform in Germany and Austria. This deal furthers the relationship between the companies, who announced earlier this year the launch of the MGM HD Channel. The announcement was made by Gary Davey, EVP, programming, Sky Deutschland and Chris Ottinger, president, International Television Distribution and Acquisitions, MGM.

Davey said, “Sky is number one when it comes to films, and through this output deal we can ensure that Sky customers will be the first to enjoy the latest high quality MGM movies. The new MGM HD Channel presents the greatest MGM classics in brilliant HD quality – a true added value for all film fans.”

Ottinger added, “We are delighted to strengthen our Sky Deutschland partnership with a multi-year deal for our HD channel and our new theatrical releases, under the leadership of Gary Davey and his team.”

The agreement with MGM Television will offer Sky audiences exclusive access to MGM’s top box office films including Skyfall and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

In June 2013, the MGM HD Channel launched exclusively on the Sky Deutschland platform in Germany and Austria, showcasing HD re-mastered movies from the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film library.
