From Branislav Pekic in Rome

Mediaset’s on-demand offer, Premium Play, has surpassed one million users, of which 750,000 are active via an Internet connection.

Premium Play, which launched in February 2011, is providing over 3,000 pieces of content (including football channels and HD) for subscribers of the pay-TV service Mediaset Premium, at no extra cost. The service has been averaging 10,000 new users per week in the H2 2012.

From November 29th, Premium Play can also be received on next generation Samsung Smart TVs, thanks to the new Premium Play app.

Rival service from Sky Italia, Sky Go, is available to 1.1 million subscribers, nine months after launch.

Sky this week introduced a series of innovations, including an On Demand section (for tablets, PCs and Macs) with over 600 titles comprising movies, series, documentaries and more. The number of channels has reached 28 (with the addition of Sky Arte, Fox Life and DeAKids), while Sky Go is also available on the main Samsung smartphones).

Sky Go is free of charge for subscribers who have been with the operator for at least one year.

Mediaset Premium Play breaks 1 million
November 30, 2012 11.20 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Mediaset’s Premium Play is to be made available on connected TVs.

The Italian commercial channel operator said it had passed the one million user mark, 750,000 of which access the service through the internet.

New subscribers are being added at the rate of 10,000 per week with a significant acceleration during the second half of 2012.

Premium Play, which includes access to some 3,000 titles and live football, is available over the internet, through PCs, Macs and the iPad and broadcast terrestrially.

A new agreement with Samsung will see a new Premium Play app that will be pre-installed into the manufacturer’s Smart TVs.
