Tropic Thunder

Tropic Thunder is a mockumentary trailing director Damien Cockburn (Steve Coogan) and his egotistical cast as he films a Vietnam-era war epic. The picture is based upon a memoir penned by John 'Four Leaf' Tayback (Nick Nolte), a veteran who lost his hands in combat. Studio executives are threatening to sack Cockburn, whose inability to tame his unruly cast caused the production to fall a month behind schedule. Tayback suggests filming in a Vietnamese jungle to evoke a more realistic performance from the actors.

City of Angels

Maggie Rice (Meg Ryan) is a secular heart surgeon, unconvinced that a spiritual world or afterlife exists. As a practitioner of medicine she has been trained to search for empirical evidence in all situations; therefore any theoretical or theological claims without tangible proof are immediately dismissed. An otherworldly experience will ultimately challenge Rice's thinking though, while simultaneously touching her heart and soul. During what would ordinary be a routine heart operation, Maggie struggles to revive a man who has suddenly slipped into cardiac arrest. The doctor is a perfectionist who refuses to accept defeat, even when it is seemingly beyond her control. Indeed, her patient's time had already been written, and no amount of effort could have saved him. As a testament to that an angel had entered the operating room preceding his death, tasked to escort the man's soul to heaven. Upon the angel's arrival Maggie feels a strange presence in the room, despite no observable causes. At that moment the angel, named Seth (Nicolas Cage) had laid his eyes upon her, and immediately fell in love. Invisibility initially prevents Seth from introducing himself to Maggie, at least until fellow angel Cassiel (Andre Braugher) explains how. No longer hidden to the world, Seth approaches the doctor and introduces himself. The two form a close friendship, but Maggie is frightened to discover Seth's immunity to injury. Up until this point Seth concealed his true identity, a truth so extraordinary that any person would question his sanity -- and quite likely end the relationship. Nevertheless Maggie maintains feelings for Seth, forcing her to make a difficult decision after receiving a colleague's wedding proposal. The prospect of marrying a spiritual being visible to only her, and incapable of romantic relations seems bleak. When Seth meets a jolly man named Nathaniel (Dennis Franz) however, a possible solution is revealed. City of Angels performed beyond expectations at the box office earning nearly $200 million, effortlessly recuperating its $55 million budget. The picture was nominated for multiple awards, including a Golden Globe, Grammy, and MTV Movie Award. Its soundtrack features performances by Alanis Morissette, Sarah McLachlan, U2 and many more. Rating: Rated PG-13 for sexuality including explicit language, and some nudity.

Watchmen

Watchmen takes place in an alternate timeline, beginning in 1985. History and geopolitics as we know them today are much different in the film's world. The divergence began in the early twentieth century, when masked henchmen invaded America's streets. To counter rising criminal activity, a group of vigilante superheroes emerged dubbed 'The Minutemen.' A few decades later a new group of crime fighters emerged, this time focused primarily on international justice rather than street level offenses. The Minutemen's successors, the aptly named 'Watchmen,' singlehandedly thwarted the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and brought a timely end to the Vietnam War. The group's intervention in Vietnam inadvertently caused Richard Nixon's (Robert Wisden) popularity to skyrocket, and a law was passed that lifted all presidential term limits. As a result, Nixon served three consecutive terms. All was not well though. While Communist Vietnam may have fell an arms race between America and Russia continued, and tensions between the two countries remained high. In this dystopia citizens of both countries would be unsurprised by an abrupt attack. Additionally, the Watchmen had disbanded under government pressure in the early 80s; subsequently their capability to influence world events waned significantly. When former Watchman Edward Blake (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), aka The Comedian was suspiciously murdered, his fellow superhero Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley) began to investigate. Rorschach suspects that the Comedian's homicide was not an isolated incident, and that the killer will be targeting other Watchmen soon. Now he must locate and warn his colleagues, fearing that the predator could exist within their own circle. Watchmen was nominated for a Teen Choice Award and garnered $185 million at box offices, easily recuperating its $130 million budget. Its eclectic soundtrack features performances by Nat 'King' Cole, Bob Dyan, Simon & Garfunkel, My Chemical Romance and many more. The film is based upon the identically titled comic penned by Alan Moore. Rating: Rated R for strong graphic violence, sexuality, nudity, and explicit language

Knocked Up

Ben Stone (Seth Rogen) is 23 years old and going nowhere. His hobbies include sleeping, eating, smoking weed, and hanging out with his roommates. Together, they have an amazing business idea: to design a website that pinpoints the exact times (to the second) where nude scenes occur in popular films. Okay – so maybe it's not quite 'amazing,' but it is at least something. At any rate Ben is content with his life, and aside from a hot girlfriend, couldn't ask for much more. He might just get his wish. One night while clubbing with his pals Stone meets Alison Scott (Katherine Heigl), an up and coming television show host. The two polar opposites: one sexy and the other nerdy eventually get drunk, dance, and wind up in bed. Alison isn't happy when she wakes up the following morning and realizes her severe misjudgment in men. She promptly boots Ben and pretends that the night never happened; meanwhile, he can't believe it even happened. The two forget about one another for another 8 weeks. That is when Alison begins experiencing morning sickness. A number of home pregnancy tests reveal that a baby is on the way and Ben is the father. You see, in the heat of the moment Alison begged Ben to "just do it;" while she was referring to putting a condom on, he misinterpreted it as well – just doing it. Debbie (Leslie Mann), the expected mother's sister, encourages her to abort the baby. Alison is determined to have it though. Not only will she keep the baby, but she also wants to invite Ben into her life as a true partner. Perhaps he is a sweet guy after all. But Ben remains immature, and by the time he realizes his errors, the mother of his child has split. Now he must mend the damage he's done to get a third chance with a girl who would otherwise be out of his league. Knocked Up was a box office smash, earning a total of $219 million across the globe, six times more than its budget. The picture was also recognized on the award circuit, earning 2 Teen Choice Awards and 3 MTV Movie Award nominations. Its soundtrack features a wide variety of music by artists like Ol' Dirty Bastard, The B-52’s, Sublime, Britney Spears, and many more.

The Covenant

In Massachusetts four centuries ago five families settled in the American colony of Ipswich who dubbed themselves, “The Power.” Each first-born male of the five families possessed supernatural abilities. However they took an oath of secrecy, vowing to never reveal their powers to any outside entities. This was especially important given current events, namely the persecution of so-called magicians throughout the state’s colonies. One family however, the Putnams, could not accept this agreement. They desired powers beyond those naturally allotted to them, and attempted to usurp others’ supernatural strengths for their own use. The Putnams were eventually banished from Ipswich, and there was no indication throughout the years that any surviving members remained. Fast forward to 2006, approximately 300 years later. The remaining four families and their descendants came to be known as the Sons of Ipswich, whose current lineup includes Caleb, Pogue, Reid and Tyler. The boys get their first taste of power upon turning 13 but the zenith of their abilities occurs at 18. The Ipswich teens’ abilities are not without their perils: the powers are slightly weakened after each use, become increasingly addictive, and also induce premature aging in the practitioner. The boys are successful students at the prestigious Spenser Academy, where a new student has just arrived named Chase Collins. Initially nothing seems unusual about Chase, however, during a swimming competition with Caleb the new student’s eyes blacken, a sign of witchcraft. Immediately Caleb informs the others about Chase, and some rummaging through school records reveals that he is a living descendant of the Putnam clan. This is bad news, as Chase maintains his family’s lust for supreme power, and intends to destroy the boys to gain it. Unfortunately Chase overpowers Caleb, but collectively the boys may be able to outwit their foe after all. With a budget of $20 million, The Covenant was a successful endeavor, garnering an international total of $37.5 million at box offices.

J.C., James Cole is a convicted felon in an underground prison. Actually in the year 2035 all of civilization resides underground. A deadly virus plagued the planet during 1996-1997 killing 99% of the human race. The earth's surface is now inhabited by other animals immune to the virus. Cole is forced to 'volunteer' and sent to the surface to collect samples in an attempt to unlock the virus gene code. When he becomes the first to return with samples, he is offered a pardon in exchange for being sent to the past to try and recover a pure, un-mutated sample of the virus. He is to be sent to the year 1996, just before the virus outbreak that eliminated life on the surface. But the scientists of the future miscalculate and Cole finds himself in the year 1990. His explanations of a virus in the future get him arrested and land him in an insane asylum, where he first encounters both psychiatrist Dr. Kathryn Railly and fellow asylum-inmate Jeffrey Goines. "We're all monkeys" repeats Goines when he meets Cole in the asylum. Jeffrey Goines happens to be the son of a famous virologist; Dr. Goines. Though Cole knows that 1990 was not the year the virus was unleashed, he feels that the key to cracking this mystery may lie with Dr. Railly, Jeffrey, and his father Dr. Goines. Realizing that they'd sent Cole to the wrong year, the scientists of the future attempt again and Cole finds himself in the middle of a WWI battle, where he manages to catch a souvenir- a bullet in his leg. As the scientists work on their calculations to send Cole to the time the virus is unleashed, more and more pieces of the story fall into place as the resilient Cole struggles with his own memories and recollections, wondering if he is having lapses of judgment or just completely insane. Will James Cole manage to sacrifice his life to save the world that once was? Is 'The Army of 12 Monkeys' behind the viral outbreak? A simple shot to the head will not satisfy this Mafioso though: Sparazza demands that the assassin remove Buddy's heart and bring it to him. While a long line of hopeful hit men (in addition to a pair of hit women) plan their attacks, the FBI hides Israel in a Lake Tahoe penthouse suite. The location is merely temporary until he testifies against his partners in organized crime; after that Buddy will enter the federal witness protection program and assume a brand new identity. Somehow, however, the narc's hideout is identified and the hunt begins. FBI agents do their best to keep his adversaries away, though they are no match against the professional executioners who eventually breach hotel security. Yet before anyone can reach Israel they will have to beat the competition, all of whom are ruthless killers unafraid of bloodshed. The ultimate goal is to bump off Buddy, assuming the hit men do not kill each other first. Still not everything is what it seems, and the line between good and bad reverses, blurs, and shifts into an unexpected surprise after all the dust settles. Fans of Quentin Tarantino's flicks like Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs that blend dark comedy with dramatic stories and oddball characters should feel at home. Beautiful songstress Alicia Keys makes her motion picture debut, alongside rapper Common who is also featured on the soundtrack. Music throughout the film is varied across genres and eras including tracks from Wu-Tang Clan member the GZA, 70s rock outfit Motörhead, and protopunk group The Stooges. Smokin' Aces was filmed under the constraints of a $17 million budget and earned an impressive $57 at theaters. Its DVD release garnered an additional $35 million. The Devil's Advocate

A hotshot lawyer gets more than he bargained for when he learns his new boss is Lucifer himself. A hotshot Florida defense attorney takes a too-good-to-be-true position with a Manhattan legal partnership headed by the unctuous, powerful, and inappropriately named John Milton. Milton proffers a fabulous Fifth Avenue flat, untold riches, and scuzzy, amoral clients who are guiltier than sin of murder and child molestation. But is the ladder to success literally the road to hell, with Satan himself in the executive washroom? Devil’s Advocate is more morality play than supernatural shocker, with a rich supporting cast and tasty cameos from the evil likes of Don King and former senator Alphonse D'Amato. Promising young lawyer Kevin Lomax has never lost a case--even when his client is guilty. When Kevin is seduced away from his sleepy hometown in Florida to work for a flashy, charming lawyer, his mother has reservations. But as he works his way up the corporate ladder, Kevin manages to put them aside, along with his wife's needs and the stirrings of his conscience over knowingly defending the guilty. However, his vanity won't let him start losing now. As Kevin's career skyrockets, his neglected wife Mary Ann begins to see evil, violent visions. Hoping a visit from his mother will help, instead Kevin finds himself confronted with a secret his mother has never told him. As Mary Ann seemingly descends into madness, Kevin begins to suspect his boss may be much more than he seems, and he finds himself faced with a choice between saving his own life and saving his soul. This movie is rated R for sexuality, nudity, violence and language.

Lethal Weapon 4

The ultimate buddy-cop duo returns for yet another round of action. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover appear again as detectives Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh, who in the span of six years have undergone many changes. Riggs has at last accepted his wife's death and entered a new relationship, this time with Internal Affairs officer Lorna Cole (Rene Russo). Marriage may be on the horizon for the couple, a thought taken into consideration as they await their child's birth. Murtaugh's family is growing too, as he prepares to become a grandfather and reluctantly embraces his son in law, a fellow cop depicted by Chris Rock. Captain Ed Murphy (Steve Kahan) is forced to 'promote' the detectives to a desk job, a decision prompted by the department's insurance company, who refuses to cover any future damages otherwise. Expectedly, Murphy's attempt to cage the detectives-turned-captains into office duties fails. Before the opening credits roll Murtaugh and Riggs manage to blow up an oil tanker truck and engage in fisticuffs, accompanied by their usual banter. Riggs and Murtaugh recently stymied a Chinese immigrant's human trafficking operation, hampering an elaborate scheme to auction off men and women as slave laborers. This angers one of Chinatown's most ruthless gangsters, Wah Sing Ku (Jet Li in his American debut) who vows to retaliate. The detectives and their families are now moving targets, and Murtaugh and Riggs will face off against a seemingly unbeatable adversary. Pineapple Express

Dale Denton (Seth Rogen) is a stoner process server – a guy who serves subpoenas to defendants in court cases. While on the job he takes frequent breaks to either smoke weed or see his teenage girlfriend, Angie (Amber Heard). When marijuana supplies are low he heads to Saul Silver (James Franco), his best friend and dealer. Saul has just received a new type of pot dubbed 'Pineapple Express' whose potency, as its peddler describes it, is "like killing a unicorn." A preliminary puff confirms his claim, but Dale quickly departs to serve a court notice to Ted Jones (Gary Cole), who coincidentally supplies Saul with his product. Upon arriving at Jones' home Dale blazes up a joint before exiting his car, finishes most of it, and then tosses the remainder out of his window. Before he opens the car's door, however, he witnesses Ted and a female police officer (portrayed by Rosie Perez) murder a man in cold blood. Dale starts his car and prepares to leave, but in a panic backs into the officer's car. He escapes, but Ted finds the witness' roach, samples it, and quickly realizes that the marijuana is Pineapple Express. This strain of weed is extremely rare, and only one dealer in town possesses it: Saul. After fleeing Dale remembers the roach that he left behind, and that Ted could easily link it to Saul. Dale rushes to Saul's apartment before Ted's mercenaries: Budlofsky (Kevin Corrigan) and Matheson (Craig Robinson) arrive. Although both men escape, the real action has just begun in an adventure that blends the explosions and car chases of Lethal Weapon with the drug-induced antics of Cheech and Chong. Pineapple Express was a box office smash, collecting over $100 million in ticket sales. Home video sales generated an additional $43 million. Its soundtrack includes performances by Huey Lewis and the News, Cypress Hill, Peter Tosh, and many more. The picture earned Golden Globe, Teen Choice, and MTV Music Award nominations. Rumors suggest that a sequel may be in the works.

TERMINATOR SALVATION

Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington) is a death row inmate scheduled to die by lethal injection. Now sorrowful for his criminal past, he agrees to donate his body for scientific research in an attempt to compensate for earlier transgressions. The following year an experimental emergency defense system utilizing artificial intelligence is launched by the United States military. In a scenario reminiscent of 2001: A Space Odyssey the system, codenamed Skynet, becomes an autonomous entity, rebelling against its human creators. The years between 2003 and 2018 were filled with catastrophe as Skynet launched a global nuclear war on humankind. John Conner (Christian Bale) was one of the few remaining, who subsequently led an ongoing rebellion against the network. After ambushing a Skynet facility, Conner discovers a group of human prisoners who perished in the attack. One survived however: Marcus, who was successfully transformed into a cyborg. Fortunately, he was not under the network’s control, though his mechanical underpinnings proved advantageous in protecting himself from other droids, known as Terminators. John remains distrustful of Marcus however, insisting that he is merely another Terminator who will sabotage the rebellion. Eventually Marcus earns Conner’s trust though, and he joins the other human rebels: Kyle Reese (Anton Yelchin) and Star (Jadagrace Berry). With Wright’s assistance the rebellion will remain active, even during its bleakest moments. Unfortunately this victory is not without great sacrifice, and Marcus can at last pay his debt to society in a most respectful manner. NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN

What would you do if you stumbled upon the carnage of a drug war, complete with dead bodies, burning cars, and – most importantly, $2 million in cash? Would you call the police, run away, or take the money and run? Llewellyn Moss (Josh Brolin) chose the later, despite ignoring the wishes of one dying victim for water. His wife, Carla Jean (Kelly Macdonald) questions the wisdom behind Llewellyn’s decision, though the thought of leaving their dilapidated trailer home was quite welcoming. He made a grave mistake however: Moss returned to the site the next day. Unbeknownst to him the money’s owners were watching over the area, and immediately ambushed Llewellyn. After a fierce battle he was able to escape, but a deadly game of cat and mouse had already been initiated. The gang’s main henchman is Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem), a mad man who kills men and women literally by the flip of a coin. Rather than use a gun or strangle his victims like a typical killer, Chigurh prefers to use an electrical cattle prod. Occasionally he utilizes more orthodox means – such as guns. Llewellyn inadvertently entangles his beloved wife in this web of violence. After temporarily escaping Chigurh and his men the thugs remain steadfast on his trail, and subsequently his wife’s. This is accomplished via a tracking device secretly planted in the bag of cash. Yet another man is following Moss and Anton however: an old-fashioned Texan sheriff by the name of Ed Tom Bell (Tommy Lee Jones), who is not only interested in capturing the later, but quite possibly rescuing the former. Tom Bell, nearing his retirement, battles the complexities of an ever-changing Wild West, whose days of cowboy chivalry and shootouts have transformed into bloody drug massacres. In the award circuit No Country for Old Men cleaned house, earning 4 Oscars, 2 Golden Globes, and an MTV Movie award nomination, amongst many others. Similarly it was a commercial success, raking in a total of $171 million at the close of its theatrical run. Rated R for strong graphic violence and some explicit language.

THE CONTENDER

When the President of the United States dies, vice-president Jackson Evans (Jeff Bridges) becomes his successor. Now the newly appointed head of state must appoint a new vice-president, and a Virginian democrat named Jack Hathaway (William Petersen) is his expected nominee. Governor Hathaway, a politician with an uncanny resemblance to real-life senator Ted Kennedy, recently made headlines after making a heroic, though failed attempt to rescue a drowning woman from her sunken vehicle. Despite traditional party partisanship, Hathaway has earned the support of republican representative Sheldon Runyon (Gary Oldman), who will go to any length to ensure the governor's success. Evans has other plans however. With the end of his term slowly approaching the president hopes to create a legacy for himself, and believes that appointing the country's first female vice-president is a guaranteed way of doing so. Ohioan senator Laine Hanson (Joan Allen) is an ideal candidate, a republican turned democrat whose association with both parties may help the president overcome partisan politics. This infuriates Runyon who begins an Internet muckraking campaign against Hanson, eventually unearthing scandalous photos from the senator's college years. The pictures, which depict Hanson in what appears to be a sexual act, give Runyon an opportunity to attack the senator's pro-abortion stance and its perceived immorality. Although the president, his advisors, and Hanson's friends and colleagues pressure her to address Runyon's accusations she refuses, reiterating that no individual's private life should be a topic open for political debate. Meanwhile Runyon and his cronies falsely insinuate that the senator had once engaged in prostitution, and reveal that she began ****** her husband, William (Robin Thomas) while he was still wedded to another woman. In a scenario strikingly reminiscent of Bill Clinton's so-called 'Monicagate,' Hanson appears before the House Judiciary Committee for confirmation, refusing to compromise neither her right to privacy nor her principles. Whether or not the senator's ethics can triumph over Washington's politics of deceit, however, remains to be seen. The Contender received generally positive reviews, reinforced by 2 Oscar and Golden Globe nominations. The picture earned over $23 million worldwide, more than double its $9 million budget.

Message in a Bottle

New Jersey wedding singer Robbie Hart loses all hope after being abandoned at the altar by his fiancee Linda, who decides that the prospect of marrying a guy who sings at wedding receptions doesn't equal the attraction she felt when he was lead singer in a rock band. Julia asks Robbie to help her plan her upcoming wedding to sleazy Glenn, DeLorean-driving junk bond salesman who tomcats around and treats women like unfeeling slabs of meat. In Bruges

Colin Farrell portrays Ray, a first-time hired hit man whose target is a priest. He successfully completes his mission, but makes a grave mistake by accidentally killing a young boy. Public outcry and an increased police presence causes Ray's boss, Harry Waters (Ralph Fiennes) to send the rookie gunman to Bruges, Belgium to hideout. In Belgium Ray is accompanied by his partner in crime, a tenured though fatherly assassin named Ken (Brendan Gleeson). While Ray remains depressed over the child's death, Ken maintains a jovial attitude and forces the former to partake in sightseeing with him. Farrell's character grows increasingly bored in the small, though historic town, and even more annoyed by Ken's constant presence. A new female acquaintance eases the young man's grief to some extent, however. Chloë Villette (Clémence Poésy) juggles her time as a smalltime drug peddler while working as a movie production assistant. The pair click, but Ray is inevitably unable to shake the guilt of the boy's death. He begins to reason that suicide is an ideal, and perhaps only acceptable form of atonement. Mustering up the courage to actually pull the trigger is difficult though, and the toughened Ken at one point persuades his partner to forgo killing himself. Even if Ray can clear his guilty conscious sans suicide a bigger problem remains. Harry believes that killing an innocent bystander is an inexcusable offense, and ethics demand the murderer's own sacrifice in return. This is a hit man code of honor that Harry asserts should be upheld even for himself. Waters makes the trek to Bruges intending to kill Ray, but doing so is much easier said than done. In Bruges was a commercial and critical success, garnering $33 million globally -- more than twice its cost of production. The picture was an Oscar nominee and earned a Golden Globe. Carter Burwell of Twilight and Where The Wild Things Are notoriety scored the film. Rating: Rated R for strong bloody violence, pervasive language, and some drug use.

Transformers

A long time ago, far away on the planet of Cybertron, a war was being waged between the noble Autobots (led by the wise Optimus Prime) and the devious Decepticons (commanded by the dreaded Megatron) for control over the Allspark, a mystical talisman that would grant unlimited power to whoever possessed it. The Autobots managed to smuggle the Allspark off the planet, but Megatron blasted off in search of it. He eventually tracked it to the planet of Earth (circa 1850), but his reckless desire for power sent him right into the Arctic Ocean, and the sheer cold forced him into a paralyzed state. His body was later found by Captain Archibald Witwicky, and before going into a comatose state Megatron used the last of his energy to engrave a map, showing the location of the Allspark, into the Captain's glasses, and send a transmission to Cybertron. He is then carted away by the Captain's ship. A century later, Sam Witwicky, nicknamed Spike by his friends, buys his first car. To his shock, he discovers it to be Bumblebee, an Autobot in disguise who is to protect Spike, as he bears the Captain's glasses and the map carved on them. But Bumblebee is not the only Transformer to have arrived on Earth - in the desert of Qatar, the Decepticons Blackout and Scorponok attack a U.S. military base, causing the Pentagon to send their special Sector Seven agents to capture all "specimens of this alien race," and Spike and his girlfriend Mikaela find themselves in the middle of a grand battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons, stretching from Hoover Dam all the way to Los Angeles. Meanwhile, within the depths of Hoover Dam, the cryogenically stored form of Megatron awakens. “Transformers” was an unquestionable smash, earning an amazing $709 million worldwide; DVD sales earned the picture an additional $286 million. Public demand warranted the creation of a sequel in 2009, with a third part already in the works and slated for a 2011 release. The movie was nominated for 3 Oscars, along with 28 other nominations, and 12 wins, including an MTV Movie and Teen Choice Award. The soundtrack features contemporary teen tunes from the likes of Linkin Park and The Goo Goo Dolls, alongside some 80s throwbacks. Into the Wild

Christopher McCandless has just graduated from a prestigious university, and his family is ecstatic. He will no doubt proceed to law school, and make his middle-class parents proud once again. At least that is what one would assume. But one day without informing anyone Christopher packs his car, donates the bulk of his wealth to charity, destroys all of his identification, and embarks on a journey in search of freedom. More specifically though he desires peace and total isolation from the world's complexities. His intended destination is Alaska – the most remote location he can imagine. Soon after Christopher's trek begins though he is caught in a flash flood, which destroys his trusty yellow Datsun. True to form, he opts to abandon the automobile and the associated costs and troubles of repairing it. Yet he goes one step further, and burns what little remains of his savings. While his intentions are noble his family is a nervous wreck, wondering about their son's safety. This too is part of Christopher's plan, however, part of a bid to distance himself from mom and dad's argumentative relationship, which resulted in a turbulent upbringing. Christopher continues to crisscross throughout the southwest by hitchhiking and then later solely on foot. While doing so he connects with a plethora of interesting characters, including a farmer who employs the traveler – at least until he is arrested for stealing satellite television. He also spends time with a pair of hippies – Jan Burres and Rainey, who maintain the sixty's spirit nearly 40 years later. His travels with Jan and Rainey lead him to a California commune, where he encounters Tracy Tatro, a young lady clearly infatuated with him. The twenty-year-old bedouin's travels appear to be approaching an end though, as he heads to Los Angeles. After a short stay in the big city however he becomes disillusioned, and fears that giving up so easily without reaching Alaska would jeopardize his principles, making the entire trip fruitless, despite meeting so many fantastic people along the way. Outside of Los Angeles Christopher encounters Ron Franz, a leather worker and former military officer in his senior years. Ron adopts Christopher as his surrogate grandson, and advises him not to proceed to Alaska, assuring him that serious danger lurks ahead. Nevertheless, Christopher continues his hike to the snowy state, but promises Ron he will return. Eventually Christopher does reach Alaska, settles down in the middle of nowhere, and at least initially achieves his dreams of complete peace, isolation and a simple human existence. Trouble lurks ahead that he could never envision however, as the journey turns tragic. Into the Wild is based on the true story of Christopher McCandless, who wrote about his day to day nomadic experiences from his native Atlanta to Alaska, where he would ultimately die. The picture was a commercial success, garnering $52.2 million at the box office. Its soundtrack features the stripped down compositions of Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder, alongside other pop artists like M.C. Hammer and Creedence Clearwater Revival.

PUNISHER: WAR ZONE

Inspired by the identically titled Marvel comic book franchise, and succeeding its 2004 big screen iteration, Punisher: War Zone follows the trials and tribulations of New York City vigilante Frank Castle (Ray Stevenson). Castle, otherwise known as the Punisher, routinely exterminates criminal scum from the city's streets, earning him the respect and admiration of both local and federal law enforcement agencies. While Frank's methods may be unethical or illegal, one can seldom question their effectiveness. Castle's problems begin early in the sequel when he learns that Gaitano Cesare, a notorious mob boss, has cleverly avoided a jail sentence and invited his gangster cronies to celebrate. He takes the mobster's gloating quite personally, interrupts the party, and begins shooting some of Cesare's men. Castle mistakenly fires upon and fatally wounds Nicky Donatelli (Romano Orzari), an undercover FBI agent working to infiltrate Cesare's operation. FBI agents can no longer tolerate the Punisher's vigilantism after their colleague's death, and seek to arrest the anti-hero. Although unwilling to cease fighting evil, Frank does recognize his tragic mistake and attempts to reconcile with Donatelli's family -- initially to no avail. When another group of thugs: Jigsaw (Dominic West) and his psychopath brother, Loony Bin (Doug Hutchison) carry out plans to kidnap Donatelli's wife and child, Punisher seizes the opportunity to rescue the family and potentially earn their forgiveness. But with both the FBI and Jigsaw's crew on his tail Castle's task is easier said than done. The film's soundtrack features a wide array of aggressive tracks by performers like horror-master Rob Zombie, heavy metal band Slayer, and electro house duo Justice. Rating: Rated R for pervasive strong brutal violence, explicit language, and some drug use.

LAKEVIEW TERRACE

Chris Mattson (Patrick Wilson) and Lisa Mattson (Kerry Washington) are a happily married couple who recently tied the knot. They have also made an important first step toward starting a family by purchasing their first home, located in a seemingly friendly Los Angeles suburb. The neighborhood is also presumably secure, especially since a police officer lives next door. Officer Abel Turner (Samuel L. Jackson) is a rigid and conservative single father of two children. He is less than welcoming to his new neighbors however, greeting Chris one afternoon by holding a gun to his head. No worries, the concerned cop is only giving the newcomer a safety lesson and self defense tips -- albeit in a very strange manner. Turner also lectures Mattson on the perils of smoking and, oddly enough -- racial identity. Chris does not think too deeply about the incident, and instead assumes that Abel merely enjoys dark humor. It soon becomes evident that Turner is definitely not joking, but hellbent to scare his new neighbors away. His motive for doing so is clear: Chris and Lisa are an interracial couple and due to a past tragedy, he cannot endure seeing a white man with a black woman. When Abel accidentally oversees the pair making love in their swimming pool, he transforms his anger into physical action. Turner installs a blindingly bright security light outside of his home, aimed directly into the Mattsons' bedroom window. Sleep is impossible. When Chris kindly asks the officer to remove the light, he insists that it is necessary to keep burglars away. A few days later, in the blistering heat, Lisa finds that someone has sabotaged their air conditioner. The couple's car tires were also slashed, but calls for the police to investigate remained largely ignored. As each day passes Abel grows increasingly psychotic and desperate to get rid of the Mattsons. Despite opposition from Lisa, Chris begins to fight back against the crooked man in blue. He installs his own security light, aimed directly into Turner's window; he also purchases dozens of trees and plants to form a barrier between the two homes. Meanwhile the tension Abel creates begins to push Lisa and Chris apart, complicated by the former's insistence to immediately have a child. All of this culminates into a tremendous physical and emotional battle, where audiences' expectations are constantly in flux as each character's intentions are put under a microscope. Lakeview Terrace earned $42 million internationally in addition to $20 million in DVD sales, tripling its budget and deeming it a commercial success. The soundtrack features plenty of Hip-Hop tracks by notable artists like Nas, Public Enemy, Wu Tang Clan, and many more. Rating: Rated PG-13 for intense thematic material, violence, sexuality, explicit language and some drug references.

Nicole Walker (Reese Witherspoon) thought she found the perfect guy. David McCall (Mark Wahlberg) was the exact opposite of other guys she had met before: a true gentleman, who was not just interested in having sex with her. When it was time to meet Nicole's family, David wooed them with his courteous demeanor. The McCalls' patriarch, Steven (William Petersen) felt uneasy around his daughter's new boyfriend though, and his intuition instantly sensed that he was trouble. Dad turns out to be right. When David sees a mere friend of Nicole hugging her goodbye on the street, he transforms into a lunatic and pummels the innocent boy. Nicole tries to break up the fight, but David throws her to the ground instead. The relationship is then over – or so it seems. After being dumped David feels heartbroken and repeatedly begs Nicole for forgiveness. Eventually she obliges and things seem normal again. Meanwhile, Steven has been investigating David's past and discovers a slew of inconsistencies. Her dad calmly confronts his daughter's sweetheart and insists that the relationship come to an end; David is polite during the conversation, returns home, and then proceeds to beat himself until he is bruised. When Nicole sees her boyfriend's injuries she believes her father is the culprit, and storms off with David to his home. Soon afterward he begins to reveal the true extent of his psychopathic behavior, and Nicole attempts to end the relationship for good. But David has a sadistic obsession with her, and refuses to accept that their love affair has ended. When he assembles a crew of hooligans to visit the McCalls' home later that night, an innocent teenage romance turns into a dangerous nightmare. Fear was filmed with a mere $6 million budget, but earned $20 million at the end of its theatrical run, deeming the picture a commercial success despite mixed critical reviews. The soundtrack features 90s alternative bands like Toad the Wet Sprocket, Bush, and The Sundays.

Alexander

"Alexander" movie is based on the biography of Alexander the Great, the Macedonian King of Macedonia who managed to conquer almost the whole world known to the Ancient Greeks. The storyline begins in 356 BC with Ptolemy I Soter, who narrates the story throughout the film. In lavish sets and images Oliver Stone, writer of the film, shows his vision of Alexander's daily life in the court of his father, Philip, and portraying the strained relationship between his parents. Alexander grows up together with his mother Olympias and his tutor Aristotle where he finds interest in love, honor, music, exploration, poetry and military combat. Thereafter Philip is assassinated and Alexander becomes king of Greece, including Macedon. After a brief mentioning of his punitive razing of Thebes and burning of Persepolis, Ptolemy gives an overview of Alexander's west Persian campaign, including his declaration to be the son of Zeus by the Oracle of Amun at Siwa Oasis, his great battle against the Persian Emperor Darius III in the Battle of Gaugamela, and his eight year campaign at Hydaspes against Porus in India (now Pakistan), both of which are shown in the film. The plot also illustrates Alexander's private relationship with his childhood friend, Hephaistion (Patrick Carroll), and later his wife Roxanna until his death. "Alexander" was a huge failure at the American box office, grossing only $34 million domestically, while costing $155 million to produce. It did better internationally, however, grossing a total of $133 million in overseas revenues. The movie won two world class awards and was nominated for 9 more awards. The film is rated R for violence and some sexuality and nudity.

FULL METAL JACKET

Based on Gustav Hasford's novel The Short Timers, Stanley Kubrick's unusual answer to the 1980s spate of Vietnam War films actually seems like two films in one. The first half focuses on the training of a squad of Marine grunts on Parris Island, and more specifically on the troubled relationship between the brutal drill sergeant and an oafish misfit who just happens to be a sharpshooter. The second half takes the grunts to Hue City, where the climactic battle of the 1968 Tet Offensive--and the turning point of the Vietnam War--took place. The story is told through the eyes of Private Joker, a cynical aspiring photojournalist who is forced to fight for his life and the lives of his fellow recruits. As a Vietnam War film, Kubrick's is notable for focusing on urban, rather than jungle, battlefields--with snipers hiding behind every bombed-out building. London's abandoned docklands may not be the most obvious choice of location to replicate the ravages of the Vietnam landscape, but this is where Kubrick shot the film, sticking to his dogged principles of not shooting outside his adopted home. A moving commentary on the dehumanizing process that occurs when soldiers prepare and engage in battle, Full Metal Jacket is an unforgettable experience from one of the most original voices to ever pick up a movie camera.

Flyboys

Flyboys is a drama based on the group of Americans who volunteered to become fighter pilots in the Lafayette Escadrille, the 124th air squadron formed by the French in 1916, in order to fight in World War I prior to the United States’ involvement. The film stars James Franco (Spiderman) as Blaine Rawlings; Martin Henderson (Torque) plays Reed Cassidy; Jean Reno (Ronin) as Captain Theneault; Jennifer Decker (Hellphone) as Lucienne. Also starring in the film are David Elison as Eddie Beagle, Tyler Labine as Briggs Lowry and Abdul Salis as Eugene Skinner. The film is directed by Tony Bill (Five Corners). Blaine Rowlings is at a low in his life after the foreclosure of his family ranch. Briggs Rowly’s father is becoming too much for him to handle. African-American Eugene Skinner has been accepted as an athlete in France. After seeing a video reel of the kinds of fatal air combat taking place in World War I, Blaine is intrigued and inspired to go fight for a cause. Rowly uses the opportunity as an escape, while Eugene feels indebted to pay back his adopted country. The three join the Lafayette Escadrille, where dog fights are the name of the game. Each amateur struggles with the demands of flying while facing racial prejudice, going through the cold path of revenge, and even falling in love. Can these boys live up to the heat, or is it just too hot to handle? The film won a Park City Film Musica award and was praised for its highly realistic CGI fight scenes. Around the World in 80 Days

In 1872, eccentric British inventor Phileas Fogg (Steve Coogan) has come up with any number of gadgets to help people travel with greater speed and ease, and is working on plans for a flying machine. In a lively discussion with Lord Kelvin (Jim Broadbent), the head of the Royal Academy of Science, Fogg states his belief that it's possible for someone to travel around the globe in a mere 80 days. Kelvin, who makes no secret of his belief that Fogg is a crackpot, challenges him to do just that, and adds a wager to the bargain to make things interesting: if Fogg can't circumnavigate the globe in 80 days, he'll give up inventing forever. Fogg takes the challenge, and teams up with his manservant, a former acrobat named Passepartout (Jackie Chan), and lovely navigator Monique (Cécile De France) to make the epic voyage -- traveling by train, boat, balloon, horseback, or any other means at their disposal. However, Fogg and his companions are dogged along the way by the false accusation that the inventor took part in a bank robbery, forcing him to not only complete the journey but clear his name as well.

Batman Begins

Batman Begins reboots the classic film franchise and attempts to paint a psychological portrait of the superhero. Viewers are transported back to the crime fighter's childhood and adolescent years, witnessing the events that birthed Bruce Wayne's nocturnal, mammalian alter ego. Unlike its predecessor, 1997's Batman & Robin, the picture remains true to its comic book roots, shedding the cheesy costumes, phrases, and behaviors of its 60s sitcom iteration. This installment is decidedly dark. As a child Wayne was nurtured by his aristocratic, philanthropic mother and father who generously established the city's monorail system. Bruce led a happy life until his parents were slain by a mugger: Joe Chill (Richard Brake). The family's trustworthy butler, Alfred Pennyworth (Michael Caine) became the boy's surrogate dad, and remained Bruce's father figure far into adulthood. For a period Wayne was not a defender of justice, but rather a perpetuator of injustice. He spent his teenage years in juvenile detention, wallowing in self-pity over his parents' death, convinced that he could have prevented it. After release Bruce remained entranced by criminality, though now not as a participant but rather a researcher attempting to understand its underlying causes. Shadowy vigilante Henri Ducard (Liam Neeson) serves as the young man's mentor, training him in martial arts and eventually initiating him into an extremist league of crime fighters. Wayne differs with Ducard's approach to vigilanteism however; upon returning to Gotham, the caped crusader severs ties with his teacher. Ducard and his organization believe that the city is beyond conventional repair; to eliminate crime in Gotham, Ducard proposes to essentially destroy it. The teacher and his student part ways over this ideological disagreement, but the separation initiates a bitter rivalry. No longer a member of the Shadow League, Bruce meets scientist Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman) who supplies him with technological gadgetry. While he is a playboy businessman by day, Wayne is Batman by night -- unbeknownst to all but a few. With Ducard no longer an apparent concern, Batman becomes entangled with Carmine Falcone (Tom Wilkinson), Chill's former cellmate. Although he does not initially realize it, Batman will eventually face off against his mentor's organization one last time. Batman Begins was both a commercial and critical success, reversing much of the negative feelings evoked by its predecessor. The picture earned over $372 million at the end of its theatrical run, recuperating two and a half times its budget. It was nominated for an Oscar and earned an MTV Movie Award. Rating: Rated PG-13 for intense action violence, disturbing images, and some thematic elements.

THE HILLS HAVE EYES II

After a group of hapless National Guard troops fails a training exercise, their commanding officer orders them to deliver supplies to some scientists in Yuma Flats, New Mexico. The mutants from the first film, the unfortunate victims who live on nuclear testing ground, have returned to terrorize a group of Department of Defense researchers. The unlucky soldiers happen upon the remains of their camp and its denizens, and the horrors begin. The inbred family of cannibals stalks the soldiers and picks them off, one by one, in gruesome fashion. The Hills Have Eyes II is a sequel to the remake of Wes Craven's original 1977 film. It's no coincidence that Craven changed this sequel's victims from a band of motorcyclists to a group of unlucky soldiers, giving the film political undertones. For a brief moment, this film addresses the idea that war may be the worst kind of horror, even when it's judged against mutant cannibals. This movie is rated R for prolonged sequences of strong gruesome horror violence and gore, a rape and language.

Rated PG-13 for war action violence and some sexual content

The Contractor

Retired CIA agent James Dial has lived on a secluded ranch in Montana ever since a lapse in concentration cost him a chance to take down terrorist cell leader, Ali Mahmud Jahar. One day, James is paid a visit from his former employer, Jeremy Collins, who wants to offer James one more chance to eliminate Ali. The terrorist mastermind is in custody in London, but Collins fears that if he goes to prison, he will continue to run his operation from behind bars. As an assassin and professional marksman of the highest degree, James is uniquely qualified for the assignment. But there is one catch: if he fails and blows his cover, he will have to be eliminated himself. Jame heads to London equipped with a passport, an assistant, and a safe house and assumes the guise of a priest, and ascends to the top of a church bell tower located across the street from where Jahar is located. This time, James waits patiently, and with a special scope mechanism kills Jahar with a shot to the head. The mission appears to be a success, but his assistant is late bringing the getaway car and the cops notice the two men fleeing the scene. A wild chase ensues, ending with the driver being killed and the car crashing to a stop. Badly hurt, James escapes and finds his way to the safe house where he is taken in by a curious 12-year old girl named Emily (Eliza Bennett). With his cover being blown, it is only a matter of time before Collins will try to hunt him down to clean up the trail of evidence. Now the marksman is the marked man.

Casino

Las Vegas 1973 is the setting for this fact-based story about the Mob s multi-million dollar casino operation where fortunes and lives were made and lost with a roll of the dice. The film chronicles the lives and times of three characters: "Ace" Rothstein, a bookmaking wizard; Nicky Santoro, a Mafia underboss and longtime best friend to Ace; and Ginger McKenna, a leggy ex-prostitute with a fondness for jewellery and a penchant for playing the field. Ace plays by the rules (albeit Vegas rules, which, as he reminds the audience in voiceover, would make him a criminal in any other state), while Nicky and Ginger lie, cheat, and steal their respective ways to the top. Nicky is unable to control his obsession of gambling and violent behavior causing the attention of the media and the FBI to question and eavesdrop on him. Ace eventually falls in love with Ginger. The film's first hour and a half details their rise to power, while the second half follows their downfall as the FBI, corrupt government officials, and angry mob bosses pick apart their Camelot piece by piece. The film is based on the non-fiction book by Nicholas Pileggi of the same name, which in turn was inspired by actual personas and events in the Las Vegas casino community. Stone picked up a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture and a nomination for an Academy, while Scorsese picked up a Academy nomination for Best Director. This movie is rated R for strong brutal violence, pervasive strong language, drug use and some sexuality.

The Scorpion King

Inspired by tales of a legendary Egyptian ruler, "The Scorpion King" unfolds in a time of suffering and brutality, centuries before the raising of the Great Pyramid. Following the story of Mathayus the Scorpion King, the character featured in "The Mummy Returns", Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson stars as the last true Akkadian mercenary, who will one day rise to become "The Scorpion King". Director Chuck Russell brings us a story penned by Stephen Sommers and Jonathan Hales- a story about a ruthless warlord named Memnon [Steven Brand] who believes he was destined to rule, and Mathayus, the assassin sent to stop him. Only a few of the scattered tribes of the desert stand between the ambitious warlord and the throne. They understand that Menon's next strike may wipe them all out and thus they overcome their petty differences to unite against their common foe. The tribes seek a man descended from generations of Akkadian assassins- Mathayus [The Rock]. Skilled in the arts of war, he is sent to rob Memnon of his most dangerous asset- the sorceress Cassandra. Cassandra is a beautiful sorceress, captured by Memnon as a child, and possessing the gift of foresight. Her vision is the fuel behind Memnon's strategies and subsequent victories. Because of her Memnon was deemed invincible. Unable to kill her, Mathayus discovers that holding Cassandra hostage will also affect Memnon and his troops, and along with the young horse-thief Arpid, the three make way to the Valley of the Dead to rethink their strategy. After shooting only a few scenes of "The Mummy Returns" - the film in which he made his big-screen debut - Universal Pictures approached 'The Rock' about starring in his own film, which would chronicle the Scorpion King's rise to power in a film set 2000 years before the events of "The Mummy Returns". The Rock's salary of $5.5 million made the Guinness Book Of Records as the highest salary for a first-time leading man. Winner of the 2003 ASCAP Award for Top Box Office Films, "The Scorpion King". This movie is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of action violence and some sensuality.

About the Movie : After a misunderstanding aboard an airplane that escalates out of control, the mild-mannered Dave Buznik is ordered by a judge to attend anger management sessions run by Doctor Buddy Rydell. The sessions are filled with highly eccentric and volatile people added to the fact that Buddy's unorthodox approach to therapy is confrontational and abrasive and Dave is bewildered by it. Then, after yet another mishap, the judge orders Dave to step up his therapy or wind up in jail. So, Buddy moves in with Dave to help him battle his inner demons. Buddy himself has no inner demons since he acts out at every opportunity and that includes making lewd comments about Dave's girlfriend Linda and goading Dave into confronting every slight, past or present, head-on. But Buddy finally goes too far and Dave must decide whether to crawl back into his shell or stand up for himself. Could it be that Buddy's confounding and contradictory treatment is just what the doctor ordered? Anger Management won a Teen Choice award and was nominated for three others. The picture’s soundtrack features plenty of great seventies tunes by the likes of Blondie, The Who, Jimmy Buffet, the Bee Gees and many more. Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl

Captain Jack Sparrow is not some obnoxiously serious pirate of yesteryears, but a strangely fashionable, entertaining, drunk who speaks with a lisp and even (unintentionally) evokes laughter and mockery from his crew mates. Captain Jack’s fellow pirates are atypical as well. More precisely, the pirates responsible for stealing Sparrow’s ship are humans cursed to neither live nor die – permanently stuck in limbo; when exposed to moonlight their true essence appears in skeletal form. And these pirates are not your archetypal pirates either as rather than steal hidden treasures Captain Jack’s foe, Barbossa, wishes to return a stolen treasure to its original location. Years ago before Barbossa seized Jack’s ship (known as the Black Pearl) the two pirates were close friends. While heading on an expedition to collect a huge pile of gold Barbossa led a mutiny against Jack on the ship, leaving him stranded on a deserted island. Naturally, Jack was furious about being stranded, though he would later be thankful for his absence. The treasure Barbossa and his crew uncovered initiated a curse on them all; the curse, which leaves them painfully in between life and death cannot be reversed except if all the booty is returned to its rightful place. Additionally, there more complicated catch. Another requirement for the curse’s removal is that the blood of each pirate who seized the treasure should be dropped on an individual coin and placed back into the chest. This is not an easy task since Barbossa murdered one of the original thieves. However the blood of the thief’s descendant will suffice, which prompts the Captain’s living-dead crew to kidnap an innocent lady before discovering their true target – who is also seized. To reclaim his ship and save innocent lives Captain Jack must work alongside authorities who, under ordinary circumstances, would prefer to behead him rather than befriend him. “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” was awarded 5 Oscars and earned more than $654 million worldwide, not including home video rentals and purchases. This movie is rated PG-13 for action/adventure violence.

Swordfish

Stanley Jobson is an elite hacker who infected the FBI's Carnivore program with a potent computer virus, delaying its deployment by several years. For this, he was arrested by Agent Roberts, convicted of computer crimes and spent two years in Leavenworth. A condition of his parole is that he is forbidden from touching, much less using, a computer. His ex-wife, Melissa, has sole custody over their daughter Holly and some form of restraining order against Stanley from seeing Holly. While at home in rural Texas practicing his golf swing, a woman named Ginger Knowles shows up to solicit his hacking skills for her boss Gabriel Shear. For an initial $100,000 he agrees to meet with Gabriel. Gabriel pressures Stanley to hack a government system in 60 seconds while at gun point. Although it was just a test (the gun was not loaded), Stanley succeeded in hacking the system, a feat that Gabriel had not anticipated. Gabriel reveals to Stanley that he works for an organization called the Black Cell, which is responsible for retaliatory attacks against terrorists who have attacked Americans. It is currently headed by Senator Reisman. Reisman discovers that the FBI has caught onto Gabriel and attempts to pull the plug. After Gabriel refuses to terminate plans, Reisman attempts to have Gabriel killed, which fails. Gabriel tracks the Senator down and kills him. Gabriel proceeds with his plan and takes hostages. After stealing the $9.5 billions, he boards the hostages and his crew on a bus out of the bank. Gabriel demands a plane at the local airport, and departs with his team in a helicopter which is shot down by Stanley. At the morgue, Stanley realizes it was more misdirection and Gabriel was not on the helicopter. The end of the film shows Ginger and Gabriel in Monte Carlo transferring that $9.5 billion into other accounts. The movie won 2002 BMI Film Music Award, and Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture (Halle Berry). It was nominated for Razzie Award for best Actor (John Travolta). "Swordfish" grossed over US$147 million in worldwide box office receipts on a production budget of $102 million. The film is Rated R for violence, language and some sexuality/nudity.

The Great Raid

In the waning days of World War II, General Douglas MacArthur chose to make good on a pledge that he made in 1942 -- that he would return to the Philippines after he and his troops were forced to retreat. However, MacArthur's determination was more than a matter of pride. Over 500 American soldiers were being held in Cabanatuan, a notoriously brutal prisoner of war camp in the Philippines operated by the Japanese army, and MacArthur wanted to see to it that they made it home. MacArthur chose Lt. Col. Henry Mucci to lead the Sixth Ranger Battalion on a mission 30 miles behind enemy lines to infiltrate Cabanatuan and liberate the American prisoners. With the help of Capt. Prince, Mucci leads his men on a life-or-death raid against forces known for their savagery.

The Matrix

Premiered in US theatres in 1999, "The Matrix" is a film that combines the elements of science fiction, thriller, action and adventure. The film is written and directed by Larry and Andy Wachowski. It was the first of the "The Matrix" film series. The movie, the runtime of which is 136 minutes, stars Keanu Reeves as Thomas A. Anderson, Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus, Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity, Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith, Joe Pantoliano as Cypher, Julian Arahanga as Apoc, Anthony Ray Parker as Dozer, Marcus Chong as Tank, Matt Doran as Mouse, Gloria Foster as the Oracle, and Belinda McClory as Switch. The film describes a future in which reality perceived by humans is actually the Matrix, a simulated reality created by sentient machines in order to pacify and subdue the human population while their bodies' heat and electrical activity are used as an energy source. What if virtual reality wasn't just for fun, but was being used to imprison you? That's the dilemma that faces mild-mannered computer jockey Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) in "The Matrix". It's the year 1999, and Anderson works in a cubicle, manning a computer and doing a little hacking on the side. It's through this latter activity that Thomas makes the acquaintance of Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), who has some interesting news for Mr. Anderson — none of what's going on around him is real. The year is actually closer to 2199, and it seems Thomas, like most people, is a victim of The Matrix, a massive artificial intelligence system that has tapped into people's minds and created the illusion of a real world, while using their brains and bodies for energy. This system tosses people away like spent batteries when they're through. Morpheus, however, is convinced Neo is "The One" who can crack open The Matrix and bring his people to both physical and psychological freedom. "The Matrix" received Oscar Awards for film editing, sound effects editing, visual effects, and sound. It also won Saturn Awards for Best Science Fiction Film and Best Direction, BAFTA awards for Best Sound and Best Achievement in Special Visual Effects, in addition to nominations in the cinematography, production design and editing categories. The film was rated R for sci-fi violence and brief language. With a production budget of US$ 63 millions, the film's gross box office revenues amounted to US$ 460 millions.

ROCKY BALBOA

Very few franchises have experienced the longevity of Rocky, a series of films spanning four decades. While its sequels have garnered less than stellar responses over the years, most moviegoers and critics alike praise the boxing saga's 1976 debut. When news spread that a nearly 60 year old Sylvester Stallone would create a final sequel in 2006, crowds expected the worst. Fortunately the last chapter, Rocky Balboa exceeded everyone's expectations. Stallone's character attempts to fight his psychological demons rather than mere boxing matches. The recent death of his wife, Adrian (Talia Shire) has transformed the former champ into a gloomy, purposeless man. His strained relationship with son Robert (Milo Ventimiglia) only intensifies Balboa's depression. Owning and managing a small, but modestly successful restaurant gives the boxer some solace. Patrons are eager to hear the Italian Stallion retell stories from his glory days, or have their picture taken beside him. In parallel, single mother Marie (Geraldine Hughes) and her fatherless son, Stephenson (James Francis Kelly III) provide companionship and a much needed sense of purpose. Despite his age, and regardless of practicality, Rocky yearns for the life he once lived. He not only misses Adrian, but also the ring and its associated struggles. When a computer simulated boxing match between Balboa and the current heavyweight champ, Mason 'The Line' Dixon (Antonio Tarver) names Stallone the victor, sports fans around the world are intrigued. Could a 58-year old man possibly defeat an opponent half his age? The newfound attention Rocky receives boosts his morale; soon, he begins preparing to compete in local fights with the assistance of longtime trainer Duke Evers (Tony Burton). News of Balboa's inconceivable return reaches Dixon's management, whose client is regularly dismissed as a Heavyweight Champion by chance, rather than by genuine skill. The champ's promoters hypothesize that a victorious bout with a legend could help solidify Dixon's legitimacy in the boxing world and propose the idea to Rocky. Reluctant at first, Balboa eventually accepts Dixon's challenge. Winning is not necessarily Rocky's primary goal however: a quest for closure and a sense of fulfillment is more important. Rocky Balboa was both a critical and commercial success. Filmed under the constraints of a $24 million budget, it earned $155 million at the end of its theatrical run and an additional $35 million from DVD sells. The picture was nominated for an MTV Movie Award. Soundtrack features Bill Conti's unforgettable Gonna Fly Now and the Three 6 Mafia. Rating: Rated PG for boxing violence and some explicit language.

PUSH (2009)

During Hitler's reign of Nazi Germany a number of medical experiments were enacted, each attempting to give ordinary humans extraordinary powers that could be harnessed for military purposes. After Germany's defeat in World War II the country abandoned these projects, but other Western nations began their own. A seedy government organization known as 'The Division' created their first generation of superhumans around this time; decades later, those test subjects would give birth to their own children, who also possessed extraordinary powers. Nick (Chris Evans) is one of those children, a so-called 'mover' who can shift objects telekinetically. Early in the film he receives a surprise visit from Cassie (Dakota Fanning), a 'watcher' whose speciality is clairvoyance. She has come to inform him about a briefcase that Division agents desperately want. Like many other Division subjects, Nick has fled the Division and relocated overseas. Since the agency has been tracking Cassie, her visit to the mover's home revealed his previously unknown location to Henry (Djimon Hounsou), a ruthless Division agent. Henry is also the product of government experimentation, and possesses the power of mind control. Initially Cassie claims that the briefcase contains $6 million -- enough for Nick to pay off his gambling debts and escape the wrath of a nearby Asian gang. Later, he learns that it contains a government serum that boosts recipients' mental powers tenfold. The concoction's formula was altered numerous times, killing those who received it. Yet one woman survived the injection: Nick's former girlfriend Kira (Camilla Belle), a recent Division escapee who stole the serum upon fleeing. While Cassie hopes to obtain the enhancer to free her mother from the agency's imprisonment, all three stand to benefit. Kira, Nick, and Cassie intend to use the serum as a bargaining chip and ultimately free themselves from any of the Division's control. Henry is merely one of the trio's foes however; a vicious group of thugs also want the substance for their criminal organization and will stop at nothing to get it. Push earned over $65 million internationally, not including DVD sales and rentals, easily recuperating its $38 million production cost. Its soundtrack features trip-hop group UNKLE, indie rock group The Kills, and Germany's The Notwist. Rating: Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, brief strong language, smoking and a scene of teen drinking.

SOLOMON KANE

James Purefoy depicts Solomon Kane, a seventeenth century British mercenary who fought against Ottoman forces in North Africa. His final battle in the land was a victorious one monetarily, though spiritually a great defeat. When he and his men conquered the opposition's citadel they entered intending to loot its treasures, but they would encounter pure misfortune instead. Inside Kane meets The Devil's Reaper (Ian Whyte of the Predator franchise) who informs the warrior that he is destined to eternal damnation. Unwilling to accept this fate, Solomon vows to live a holy life, becomes a monk, and seeks refuge in an English monastery. A priest's vision later results in his expulsion from the church, forcing Kane to seek a new path to redemption. While wandering the countryside Solomon is attacked by a group of bandits whom he could easily defeat. He quickly remembers his prayers for salvation however, and his newfound commitment to pacifism. Rather than retaliate, Kane endures a vicious beating that knocks him unconscious. Upon awaking he is greeted by William Crowthorn (Pete Postlethwaite of The Usual Suspects notoriety), the patriarch of a Puritan family en route to America. With their help, Solomon slowly recovers from the pummeling he received earlier. Still it seems that, despite a vow to nonviolence, brutality is an inescapable aspect of the retired mercenary's life. When the Crowthorns are attacked by a wicked sorcerer's apprentices the family's young daughter, Meredith (Rachel Hurd-Wood) is kidnapped; concurrently, William is fatally wounded. The father's dying words promised Kane salvation, dependent upon the successful recovery of Meredith. Solomon must now weigh his oath to abandon fighting with the moral obligation of fulfilling William's request. Kane's inherent bravery causes the solider to embrace violence once again, though this time to protect the innocent, not to simply pillage their fortunes. Success cannot be guaranteed however, especially when the true enemy may be the warrior's own ego. Rating: Contains scenes of intense fighting, violence, and gore.

TALLADEGA NIGHTS:THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY

As a youth Ricky Bobby (Will Ferrell) was no stranger to adversity. Ricky's father, Reese (Gary Cole) was a hopeless alcoholic with a knack for embarrassing his son. The family's patriarch was not a wicked individual per-se, but merely a man-child innately incapable of responsibility. Marriage and fatherhood were no exception to this rule, and Reese inevitably abandoned Ricky, leaving his mother, Lucy (Jane Lynch) to raise the boy alone. Despite Reese's shortcomings Ricky did inherit a pearl of wisdom from his dad: the oft repeated affirmation that, "If you ain't first, you're last." While undeniably simplistic, this mantra inspired Ricky to become a renowned NASCAR driver, alongside his best friend Cal (John C. Reilly). For years Cal and Ricky set records on the racetrack, repeatedly finishing in first and second place. This was not coincidental, as the two had decided early in their careers to perform as a team, relentlessly strategizing against other racers to ensure that one of them placed first. The two friends did this in a binary fashion, repeatedly allowing Ricky to win one week's race and then Cal the next. Both men, at least to some extent, left their redneck pasts behind them. With Ricky's newfound wealth and fame he eventually marries a beautiful, albeit shallow trophy wife: Carley Bobby (Leslie Bibb). Together they have two sons, Walker (Houston Tumlin) and Texas Ranger (Grayson Russell), whose names are derived from Ricky's favorite television program, Walker Texas Ranger. All good things must come to an end however, and Ricky is no exception to this rule. When an effeminate Formula One driver named Jean Girard (Sacha Baron Cohen) decides to head west and conqueror the world of NASCAR, defeating Ricky becomes his top priority. In almost no time Girard is successful, effortlessly outmaneuvering his opponents while reading Albert Camus' L’Étranger from his cockpit. As Ricky's fame and fortune dwindles so does Carley's interest in him, and she quickly dumps the former champ to wed Cal. In the absence of his wife, children, best friend, and career Ricky's morale enters a downward spiral. He leaves his plush mansion and returns to his mother's basement, spending his days behind the wheel of a pizza delivery truck rather than a stockcar. All odds are against the fallen driver with meager beginnings, who must inevitably channel the struggles of his youth to escape an impending adulthood of darkness. Talladega Nights earned a respectable $162 million at the end of its theatrical run, easily recuperating its hefty $72 million budget. Famed drivers Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Jamie McMurray make guest appearances in the film, alongside a slew of recognizable NASCAR on Fox television commentators. The soundtrack features songs by Audioslave, Mötley Crüe, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Waylon Jennings in addition to many more artists. Talladega Nights earned both an MTV Movie Award and a Teen Choice Award.

This movie is rated PG-13 due to crude sexual content and language.

TALLADEGA NIGHTS:THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY As a youth Ricky Bobby (Will Ferrell) was no stranger to adversity.

THE PERFECT STORM Based on the novel by Sebastian Junger, which was in turn loosely based upon true story of the Andrea Gail fishing vessel, The Perfect Storm details the events preceding the ship’s sinking in 1991. George Clooney depicts the boat’s captain, William ‘Billy’ Tyne, a divorced father of two disappointed by his crew’s lackluster performance during the tail end of the fishing season. Despite the risks of a soon approaching storm, Billy and his crew reluctantly decide to embark upon one last expedition in an attempt to recuperate their losses. Since the men rely upon their fishing income for their yearly expenses, the potential danger involved in the journey seems justified. The endeavor was fruitful for the most part, and the men offset the season’s earlier losses. Their happiness would soon turn bitter, however, when Andrea Gail’s freezer begins malfunctioning; without it the crew’s haul would quickly perish. To prevent that from happening Captain Tyne made no haste in returning to shore, well aware that he would be traveling into the eye of the storm. Nonetheless, with his years of experience he believed he could navigate through the rough tides. It soon becomes evident that the Captain is in over his head, however. When a fallen antenna disconnects the vessel from outside communication, and a rescue copter crashes while refueling, the men are left to fend for themselves. The decisions they must make from this point forward are, quite literally, the difference between life and death. Regardless of the outcome, The Perfect Storm packs enough suspense to keep audiences glued to their seats. The film’s soundtrack features the sounds of renowned artists such as John Mellencamp, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Marley, and many more. Both a critical and commercial success, the picture received two Oscar nominations and grossed more than $328 million in sales worldwide.

Resident Evil Fans of the popular Resident Evil series of video games will be thoroughly entertained by its identically titled celluloid adaptation, the first of four highly successful films based upon the franchise. One mile beneath the earth lies a secretive complex owned by the Umbrella corporation, a manufacture of various household products used by 90% of all Americans. In actuality, however, it is a front for the US military's genetic engineering program, where tomorrow's most vicious biological weapons are conceptualized. At the center of this operation is Red Queen (Michaela Dicker), an artificially intelligent supercomputer reminiscent of Kubrick's HAL 9000. Red Queen has full control of the complex and relentlessly monitors its security. When an unidentified individual drops a dangerous, zombifying mutagen inside the facility, Red Queen immediately seals the contaminated area. The computer also takes action on the surface. In a mansion connected to the laboratory Alice (Milla Jovovich), an Umbrella employee, wakes up amnesic after Red Queen fills the home with noxious gas. Upon regaining consciousness, police commando James 'One' Shade (Colin Salmon) debriefs Alice regarding the security breach. By his order she, along with other commandos, will be sent to infiltrate the premises and then investigate the accident. While doing so the team must confront dozens of infected Umbrella employees and mutated animals, but not before attempting to outsmart Red Queen's rogue artificial intelligence. Inevitably the virus will infect some commandos, and quarantining the area then becomes increasing difficult. This necessitates that Alice and the others locate the disease's antidote, one that has mysteriously disappeared from the Umbrella facility. Time is of the essence. Loyal players of Resident Evil showed their support for the film in droves, garnering it $102 million in ticket sales worldwide, easily recuperating its $33 million budget. Three additional films followed the 2002 release, all of them earning more than their predecessors. For example the latest offering, 2010's Resident Evil: Afterlife, drew a whopping $273 million from audiences throughout the globe. The picture's soundtrack features tracks by Nine Inch Nails, Apollo 440, and Slipknot.
