License to Drive
Les (Corey Haim) is about to go through one of the most important adolescent rites-of-passage: He's all set to take his driver's license exam. And Les had better pass, cause his younger buddies are depending on him to free them from the onerous malady of parental vehicular dependency. Adding to his pressure is his hot date with Mercedes (Heather Graham), a super-babe, that Les has lied his way into. Les fails the test. But he's not discouraged because when you haven't got it, you can fake it! So he steals his grandfather's near-vintage, baby-blue caddy that's just back from the shop. Once the wheels are out on the road, it's no turning back for the teens on the town. Too bad everything that could go wrong does go wrong, as Les's cool evening out becomes his worst nightmare.

Homeland Security
Henry Durand (Colin Hanks) refused to follow in the criminal footsteps of his imprisoned father, and opted to become an FBI agent instead. Shortly after becoming an agent for the bureau he left his mother, Marty (Meg Ryan) at home to pursue a three year long investigation. While Henry was away, Marty dropped more than 100 pounds and began to date men half her age. At night she was an uninhibited party animal who drove men of all ages wild. An Albanian playboy named Tommy Lucero (Antonio Banderas) was one of Marty's many admirers. His attractive looks, smooth demeanor, and sexy foreign accent were undeniable turn ons for Henry's mom. Soon a serious relationship developed and the couple was inseparable. The FBI knows Tommy's ugly side however, whose true moniker is Tomas Martinez, an international art thief who has just escaped from a French prison. For months the bureau has been trailing Martinez and now, by coincidence, Henry has established a direct and natural relationship with their target. In essence, agent Durand can go undercover without really being undercover. Since Tommy and Marty are frequently together, the FBI is forced to place both individuals under surveillance. That means Henry must listen to and witness his mother's most intimate and private moments with the thief -- regardless of how uncomfortable it makes him feel. Durand cannot even vent to his wife and fellow agent, Emily (Selma Blair) due to bureau regulations. Worse yet, he cannot warn his mother that she is in love with an internationally known gangster. Soundtrack features songs by punk rockers The Lemonheads and funk legends The Ohio Players.

The Nanny Diaries
Annie 'Nanny' Braddock (Scarlett Johansson) has just graduated from Montclair State University with a degree in anthropology. Although she is uncertain about her direction, Annie has landed a job interview with a prominent New York bank, and her chances for success seem high. Unfortunately she botches the interview, but is too ashamed to return to her native New Jersey as a failure; she decides that some time away from home to ponder her future might be a good idea. Living by oneself naturally requires money, which Annie does not have. An interesting job opportunity comes her way one day while daydreaming at a nearby park. She witnesses a young boy in a uniform stumble in front of a vehicle certain to face death; the anthropologist jumps to save the child and risks her own life in the process. Unbeknownst to Annie the boy's mother, Manhattan socialite Mrs. Alexandra X (Laura Linney) witnessed the act of heroism. Upon thanking the recent graduate, Alexandra asks the heroine her name, mistakenly hearing the word "nanny." Coincidentally she needs a nanny to look after her son, Grayer (Nicholas Art) and offers Annie the position. She accepts Alexandra's offer, but lies to her parents in New Jersey, leading them to believe their daughter was hired as a banker. At first Grayer's new nanny is elated to stay in the family's extremely posh home -- at least until Alexandra shows Annie her dingy bedroom. Annie has devised a way to benefit from the experience however, glamorous or not. The family's home soon becomes the site of empirical research, where Annie analyzes the lives of New York's upper crust and their associated social dilemmas. What she learns may one day prove to be an invaluable asset to the up and coming anthropologist. The job is no picnic though. Shopaholic Alexandra has an endless list of tasks for the nanny, while her adulterer husband, Mr. Stan X (Paul Giamatti) samples a wide array of women on the side. Grayer is influenced by his shallow parents, and proves to be equally problematic and in desperate need of a meaningful role model. Luckily, Annie has newfound friend Lynette (R&B songstress Alicia Keys) to provide support, and a male love interest upstairs: Harvard graduate Hayden (Chris Evans). Soundtrack features tunes by 80s group Simply Red, George Michael, WAR, and many more. The Nanny Diaries was a box office success, earning twice its $20 million budget. Rating: Rated PG-13 for explicit language.

Stealing Harvard
John Plummer tries to make a bold statement to his fiancé, Elaine, and her wealthy father that he doesn’t need any financial assistance, especially Elaine’s father’s, to secure a home for both him and Elaine. Mr. Warner, Elaine’s father, already considers John unworthy of his daughter, as he his John’s employer. To add unto this already pressing situation, John’s family comes knocking on his bank account. John’s niece, Noreen brings a serious moral and financial dilemma to John when she shows him a video in which John made a promise that he would help her with her college education when the time came. Unfortunately for John, the timing couldn’t be worse. Noreen has just been accepted to Harvard University and needs an additional $30,000 on top of her grants to get her through her education, which is all of John’s life savings. John needs to find a way to come up with the extra cash and fast. His only quick option comes from his high school loser landscaping friend Walter ‘Duff’ Duffy. Duff convinces John that it wouldn’t be unethical to steal money from one of his rich clients, as the insurance company would reimburse the amount, and imposes his belief that they deserve to give back to society. John describes Duff as “A man whose ideas were sometimes so dumb they were brilliant.” Listening to Duff takes John on a journey through the dumb, absurd, and improbable. In one of the film’s climactic comic scenes, Elaine’s father gets a hold of an incriminating photograph, of John in bed and in drag, which he shows to his daughter. This movie is rated R for crude and sexual humor, language and drug references.

The Polar Express
At 8-years old Hero Boy (voiced by Tom Hanks), like most children his age, is beginning to doubt the existence of Santa Claus. His maturing sense of logic realizes that no sled could possibly hold millions of gifts, much less travel at the speed of light required to deliver them. The idea of an overweight, elderly man climbing down chimneys seems equally implausible. With that in mind he decides to definitively disprove St. Nick's existence and vows to stay awake for the remainder of the night, waiting for the mythical man (not) to arrive. Around midnight the boy's room begins to shake, prompting him to don his robe and run outside to investigate. Unexplainably, a lengthy passenger train has stopped along his neighborhood street, and its conductor (also voiced by Hanks) asks the confused boy to come aboard. The train in question is the Polar Express, a magical railway that transports Santa's skeptics directly to the North Pole. At first he declines the conductor's offer, but swiftly jumps aboard when the train starts moving. Hero Boy is greeted by three other children: Hero Girl (Nona Gaye), a female counterpart of sorts, the impoverished and sad Lonely Boy (Peter Scolari), and the aptly titled Know-It-All (Eddie Deezen), a smart-alecky kid who has a pompous answer for everything. Atop the train's roof is a bizarre hobo who, alongside Hero Boy, literally escapes death by just a few inches before the journey's end. Together the four youngsters discover that reality is not merely shaped by a thing's physical existence or lack thereof, but by one's belief or disbelief in its spirit. The gifts that Hero Boy receives that night, although not material, are enough to last a thousand Christmases. The Polar Express was the first film composed entirely using motion capture computer-animation, a method where real actors' movements are digitally manipulated. It was a commercial and critical success, earning $306 million internationally and 3 Oscar nominations. The picture's soundtrack features traditional Christmas songs such as Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town, White Christmas, and even a holiday track from Aerosmith's Steven Tyler. Rating: G
