Major LATAM distribution expansion for Sundance

Juan Fernandez Gonzalez
| 15 August 2014

AMC Networks International has announced that Paraguay, Guatemala, Panama, Honduras, Costa Rica and El Salvador are the new territories to be added to Sundance Channel's distribution network in Latin America.

With first-ever launches in six territories, the channel will see a significant expansion throughout the region, and also reinforce its position in Colombia, Peru and the Dominican Republic. Today's (15 August) agreements follow the networks successful distribution in Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Uruguay and Venezuela.

"Sundance Channel continues to experience strong growth since last year's South American launch and will now be widely available in Central America on the leading subscription television platforms in the region," said Ed Palluth, executive VP of global distribution at AMC Networks International. "We're looking forward to offering our distinctive mix of first run original drama and independent films that audiences cannot see elsewhere. Further expansion across all of Latin America is a major priority for us in the months ahead."

In Panama, the channel will start to air in August in both standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) on Cable Onda, the country's largest pay-TV platform, while Millicom is taking the network to El Salvador, Costa Rica, Honduras and Guatemala through its brand Tigo. Millicom will also be adding Sundance Channel as an HD signal to its Paraguayan schedule.

Claro will be reinforcing the signal's pay-TV distribution in Colombia and the Dominican Republic and Telefónica's Movistar TV will add the network in Peru.

Sundance Channel in Latin America is a Spanish language 24/7 linear network featuring a diverse and engaging selection of first-run original dramas and other iconic programming, award-winning and locally appealing independent films and documentaries. The network is available to pay-TV operators as an SD and HD linear television channel, video-on-demand (VOD) service and via mobile and online authenticated streaming.
