I have HDD almost as yours.Mine is:Western Digital My Book Home Edition 500GB,usb 2.0,2 Firewire 400,eSata.I used different eSata cable but in vain.I dont know how to make my HDD to be recognised by Vantage receiver?

I have stopped trying with WD. Bought Samsung HD501LJ + Thermaltake MAX4
N0003US. Formatted first by PC than reformatted by Vantage. Works both by USB and eSATA. Did not try different rec modes yet.

I have added a Seagate Momentus 5400.5 2.5 inch 160G drive and mounted it in the HD7100-TS box. Power supply derived from the 5V rail and connected to the e-SATA port with a e-SATA to SATA conversion cable. Now I have an almost real PVR. Works perfectly
