Lattelecom investigation dropped

Latvia’s Competition Council (Konkurences padome – KP) has closed a case against the incumbent telco Lattelecom for alleged abuse of its dominant position.
The case was initiated by Lattelecom’s main rivals – TV3 Latvia, Viasat Latvia, Baltkom and Izzi – in March 2010, with the parties alleging that the telco was cross-subsidising services, thereby strengthening its position in the pay-TV sector.
Lattelecom is licensed to operate Latvia’s DTT service until the end of 2013 and also has an IPTV platform.
Despite stating that problems in launching the DTT services were eliminated in the development stage, the KP has also indicated that could return to investigating Lattelecom’s activities at a future date.
