I have ordered a Kabelio CI+ module from Amazon to decode the UK channels that are on Hotbird 13E.
I have a Technomate 5402HD M3 with the CI slot.
Will this work with the module I have ordered?
Never used this type of system before so be gentle. 🤣

TM5402 M3
The CI+ designation is Technomates own and predates the adoption of “CI+” by major broadcasters. CI+ cams will NOT work in this receiver.

interesting post i was reading on one of the forums

Kabelio (hotbird)

I can see a new paid subscription satellite package called Kabelio is available on hotbird for people in Switzerland, was looking at what channels are available and see British BBC channels are on it along with itv and channel 4 and five. How is it possible that the BBC can rebroadcast license fee funded channels to another country and get around rights issues like the FA cup and movies?

The BBC have nothing to do with it.

Under Swiss law, TV providers can carry any channel that can be received free to air in any part of Switzerland using a terrestrial antenna or reasonably-sized dish (something like 60-80cm, which is easily enough for the UK spot beam channels like the BBC, ITV etc in north western Switzerland).

These channels were already being carried via cable in Switzerland under these rules, and the same now applies to Kabelio - it’s encrypted and under its Ts & Cs only available to be subscribed to and viewed by people resident there (it’s largely intended as an alternative for people in the un-cabled parts of the country).

This is also how the package has the Austrian ORF channels which are otherwise not available - they’re received at the Italian border with a UHF antenna from the digital terrestrial transmitters of the RAS - a rebroadcast company in the South Tyrol that carries them unencrypted for the German speaking population there.

🤔

what about the UK law ??? BBC has nothing to do with it until now but after the Intelsat switch off I think things will change, the amount of noise about it will ring some bells in the UK, I can't imagine they will be happy to see some dodgy company making big business for free, also do you think receiving the UK national channels in Bagdad when is supposed to be only for UK territories is correct? just watch the space

Why not ask Kabielo which receivers work with the cl+ module?
for now, the Kabelio Cam works in any receiver with CI slot despite the CI+ label on, by the way, all CI+cam are legacy compatible unless the provider activates the CI+ feature in their transmission ,Kabelio didn't so far

Probably it will works, it’s really simple to use an activate. I installed on a LG TV (with satellite receiver and cam port), and its working perfect.
Just tune the kabelio frequencies and also the frequency for the French channels (11681) because these are not under the kabelio frequencies.

Hey Kabelio,
Please add all the remaining FTA channels on 28.2E, especially Challenge TV.
Also, scandi channels like SVT, NRK etc would be very welcome.
Thank you very much! ;)

You imagine wrong  There is no "UK law" regarding this issue. And Intelsat has no relevance to the Kabelio broadcast as @john777 post already stated they receive Astra 2 in Switzerland.

Just looking for a little assistance to help locate the Kabelio channels.

After the SatBack service ended I repositioned my dish to see if I could receive the Kabelio feed. I have locked onto the Hotbird 13E satellite and following a blind scan have 300 odd TV channels but the scan does not appear to have picked up the Kabelio 10.853 MHz feed. Should I try and tweak the dish position slightly then rescan. A lot of the channels have pretty good signal strength / quality but some of them break up. I realise that the Kabelio channels will require a subscription but I am trying to see if they are receivable on my system before getting a CI+ card. I am using a 75cm dish in the Eastern Algarve, any assistance welcome - thanks.

Yes the transponders on any sat vary in strength so choose the strongest transponder on 13E( there are lists on the internet) If you can take your sat box and look at the signal strength as you tweek the dish you should be able to get the maximum signal strength. Then you do a rescan, you should now have the kabeilo channels. 13e is quite strong around the Malaga area
