The International Launch Services (ILS) informed that the launch of the Proton M will carry the SES-5 satellite scheduled for tomorrow, July 10, 2012.


Initially the launch of the satellite was to be held on June 19, 2012 from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, but found that the technical problem postponed.


Plus, as announced, the launch will take place at 01:38:30 CET. The night owl we can watch live via satellite and Internet.

SES-5 launch scheduled for July 10

ILS has informed SES that the launch of the Proton launch vehicle with the SES-5 satellite has been rescheduled for July 10, 2012.

The launch will take place at 00:38:30 local time from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan (July 9 at 20:38:30 CET). The original launch date was June 19, 2012.

On June 18, Khrunichev engineers at the launch site received an out of tolerance telemetry reading on a first stage subsystem during pre-flight testing. However, based on additional pre-flight testing performed on June 19, it was determined that further investigation is necessary, requiring the launch vehicle be returned to the processing hall for additional testing.

The SES-5 satellite was designed and built for SES by Space Systems/Loral. The spacecraft, to be positioned at the orbital slot of 5 degrees East, features 36 active Ku-band transponders and up to 24 active C-band transponders. It will feature two Ku-band beams, one serving customers in the Nordic and Baltic countries and the other one serving Sub-Saharan Africa as well as two C-band beams, one with global coverage and one with hemispheric coverage over Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

In Europe, video transmissions of the launch will be available via Astra at 19.2 degrees East.

For SD reception the frequency is 11023,25 MHz/H, service name: SES-5 Launch. For HD reception the frequency is 11626.50 MHz/V, service name: SES-5 Launch HD.

A webcast will be available via a special ILS website. The video transmission from the launch site will start about 30 minutes before lift-off of Proton with SES-5.
