Jordan bans TV channel

Jordan’s media and security authorities have closed the pro-Islamist Al-Yarmuk television channel and shut down its studios in the country.
BBC Monitoring says the first report of the closure was carried at midday on August 31st.
Al-Jazeera’s Arabic channel also carried a report saying that the channel was close to the Islamist opposition in Jordan.
“A statement by Al-Yarmuk TV denounces the government’s step as restriction on media freedom,” another “urgent” headline on the Al-Jazeera news ticker said.
