Jakarta consults on DVB-T2 plan
11.32 Europe/London, January 10, 2012 By Julian Clover

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in Indonesia is proposing that the country adopt the next generation DVB-T2 standard for free-to-air broadcasts when Jakarta switches to digital broadcasts.

The statement follows a previous consultation with industry players. The ministry is now studying the responses to a discussion document issued at the end of December. It also seems likely that no proposals for a mobile TV standard will be put forward.

A statement from the ministry said the use of DVB-T2 would open up the market to additional broadcasters. It is proposed that a selection process would take places two months after the necessary decree is issued.

Indonesia had originally decided to proceed with a DVB-T network.
