Italy’s RAI will add 4 HD channels on DTT

Italian public broadcaster RAI has won approval from the country’s Ministry for Economic Development to launch four new HDTV channels, using the terrestrial Multiplex 5, which up until now has been used for testing new HD broadcasts.
Three channels will be simulcasts of RAI’s core channels (RAI 1, RAI 2, RAI 3) while an all-new sports channel is being proposed as the fourth service.
Some 30 million Italian homes already own HD-compatible TV sets.
