Italian DTT waiting on EU and Agcom

The much-delayed release of spectrum resulting from Italy’s digital switchover is now waiting on separate approvals from the European Commission and the regulator Agcom.
On December 20 Agcom announced that it had approved draft regulation on the allocation of frequencies, a plan that would exclude the public broadcaster RAI and commercial operator Mediaset from converting their frequencies to carry new 4G services.
Days later economics minister Sviluppo Corrado Passera confirmed in a Twitter post that he was behind the cancellation of the previous ‘beauty contest’ and was waiting on the approval of Agcom and the Commission.
The involvement of Brussels comes following potential competition infringement proceedings by the Commission.
