Ireland pulls on Virgin Media’s coat

February 16, 2016 10.41 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Virgin Media East London buildVirgin Media added another 77,000 customers in 2015 and an additional 202,500 RGUs.

A strong performance in the UK helped compensate for subscriber erosion in Ireland as the newly consolidated division lost video households and a handful of broadband homes.

Virgin Media Ireland said 10,100 video subscribers in the quarter – the UK put on just 900 – but led by Project Lightning investment it is the internet where the action is.

Tom Mockridge, Virgin Media CEO, said: “These results demonstrate a strong financial performance from Virgin Media. We’ve grown revenue and operating cash flow and improved cost control, since becoming part of Liberty Global.”

158,000 UK internet additions were achieved during 2015; the 69,000 in Q4, was the highest since Q1 2010.

Ireland lost 6,200 customers and 10,000 RGUs.

Overall customer churn improved year-over-year from 14.9% to 14.3% in Q4, with UK customer churn improving from 14.6% to 14.1%.
