Internal Fan

On a DM800 clone without hard-drive - should the fan be plugged in? Had a unit where it wasn't and then I plugged it in.

Now it's been plugged in - it is constantly on, surely there should be something that only turns it on when needed?

Just wondered what the case was?

Thanks

No mate that connection on a clone 800 only offers power no control so you have to live with it or fit a quieter external fan drawing air out and the remove the fan in the 800 altogether.

ok :)

Will have to experiment when I get a chance

If I've not got a HD fitted is it detrimental to have it disconnected?

Just wondering why it wasn't connected from factory - deliberate or a mistake?

There is so much heat in there with a HDD fitted its a good idea to keep it cool that is why many of us use a external fan anything installed internally just isn't up to the job.

That small fan is still not upto the job when watching HD channels that tuner and CPU get very warm. Some get away with it others don't.

The original 800s don't have a fan at all not even a heatsink on CPU and get very warm.

you can fix an internal fan 5volt and power it from Scart output, in this case fan will turn off on stand by and on when receiver is On.

There's also a hidden usb port inside the box, 5volt power can be obtained from there as well. Not sure if it will turn off on stand-by, but it will certainly be much quieter. :)

Sadly mate the internal usb also stays powered in stanby.

fans

i put a on/off switch on the side of my unit for the internal fan if i dont want it on i just turn it off.
but i also have usb cooler fans pluged in with a on/off switch usb extention lead so that i can turn off the cooler fans when the box is not in use (stanby)
regarding the scart mod to switch fan on/off didnt work when you have dvi settings hdmi cable. it switched on but didnt switch off
i think this might work only if using scart setting in menu
hope this helps.
