Infrastructure headache for Moscow cablecos
09.48 Europe/London, February 8, 2012 By Chris Dziadul

Cable operators and ISPs in Moscow are facing the prospect of a huge bill if they are forced to move their overhead wires underground.

According to Kommersant, a working group to address the issue was set up late last year.

It has now come up two possible solutions, the first of which would see overhead wires brought together in single lines and the second move them to underground cable ducts.

The National Association of House Information and Communication Networks (NADIKS) estimates that cable operators and ISPs in Moscow would have to be spend a combined total of $10 billion (€7.6 billion) if they were required to adopt the second solution, with Akado alone required to find some $2 billion.

One compromise, saving cable operators and ISPs a large sum of money, could be re-installing their wire infrastructure in the city’s sewage system.
