India cracks down on unauthorised TV channels

Some of India’s cable MSOs are flouting the country’s rules which cover the retransmission of TV channels.
The rules insist that every channel be properly licensed before it can be carried on a DTH or cable system, but some operators are carrying unauthorised channels from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Nepal.
India’s Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has received a list of 24 unauthorised channels.
The risks for cable MSOs are considerable, and if a cable operator is found to have breached the rules it can be fined, and have equipment seized.
