by Andy Sennitt.

Ibrahim Sahin was re-elected as the president of the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) on Monday, securing Mr Sahin another four years at the helm of the broadcasting network. Mr Sahin was chosen after a five-and-a-half-hour meeting in which the board of the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) deliberated between three candidates under consideration for the position. The decision will be forwarded to Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arinc, who by law must confirm the appointment of the TRT president.

Mr Sahin, who is now slated to serve a total of eight years as TRT chief, was first elected to the position in 2007. During his first term, Mr Sahin worked to change the sagging image of the station and increase ratings, overseeing the creation of a total of 14 new TRT channels, including the 2009 launch of TRT’s first Kurdish channel.
