Hungary upbeat on digital transition
November 23, 2012 10.50 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Hungarian regulator NMHH has issued a positive assessment of the country’s transition to digital broadcasting.

In a statement, it says that the Digital Transition Grant Programme has provided more than two-thirds of those eligible for free reception equipment with the necessary information.

The NMHH estimates there are 57,000 socially needy households in Hungary. It also says that the digital switchover will primarily affect 570,000 households that currently receive only analogue terrestrial signals.

A further 100,000 have already switched to digital services but still have set viewing analogue terrestrial channels.

Hungary plans to complete the transition to digital broadcasting by the end of 2014.

DTT services in the country are currently provided by the national transmission company Antenna Hungária.
