Hungarian digital TV market grows

Hungary ended 2011 with a total of 1,657,977 digital TV subscribers, according to data published by the regulator NMHH.

The number of digital cable and IPTV subscribers stood at 689,597, while DTH and MMDS subscribers amounted to 919,613.

MinDig TV Extra, the pay-DTT service operated by Antenna Hungária, meanwhile went from strength to strength in 2011, ending the year with 48,767 customers.

UPC remained the leading provider of subscription services in Hungary irrespective of technology as of the end of last year, with a market share of 25.9%.

It was closely followed by Digi (23.0%) and T-Home (22.4%), with PR Telekom (3.3%) in fourth place.

UPC was also the leading provider of wired services (27.3%), while Digi remained the market leader in the wireless sector (40.2%).
