Hungarian blow for RCS&RDS

Romania’s RCS&RDS has failed in its attempt to secure a lucrative mobile telephone licence in the 900 MHz bandwidth in neighbouring Hungary.
According to ZF, the Hungarian regulator NMHH has rejected an application by RCS&RDS to register for the tender on the grounds that companies controlled by the latter have failed to pay monitoring fees.
The Vietnamese company Viettel has also been ruled out of the tender, leaving Magyar Telekom, Telenor, Vodafone and a consortium made up of Hungarian Post and MFB Invest as the only contenders.
RCS&RDS is a leading provider of both cable and DTH services in Hungary through its Digi-branded operations.
