A French medical student stabbed himself twice in a fit of anxiety ahead of a residency exam, then claimed he was attacked in order to avoid taking the test, legal authorities said.
Prosecutors said that the student, who has in the past invented false pretexts not to sit the exam, had suffered a "bad anxiety crisis" and that although his wounds were serious they were not life-threatening.
The student told emergency services that a drug addict trying to get morphine had stabbed him after he finished a late shift at a hospital in Limoges, central France.
He later admitted to police that he had stabbed himself.
Prosecutors have not yet decided whether to file charges against the student or not.
