Spanish satellite provider Hispasat has given awards to five Ultra HD short films during the inaugural Festival Internacional Hispasat 4K.

At the event held in Madrid's Cines Callao, the five films – four from Spain and one from Peru – were announced.

Among the 13 finalists, the best short film was Marina, directed by Alex Montoya. The Samsung award for the best Latin American production went to Peru's Modernidad (Roberto Barba), the RTVE award for the best academy film went to Oscillation (Dídac Gimeno), the Canon award for best photography went to Femme (Beatriz Mínguez de Molina), and the Dolby award for best sound went to José Alfredo (Eduardo Chapero-Jackson).

During the event Carlos Espinós, Hispasat's CEO, highlighted the great perspectives in Ultra HD's near future, as next year 4K screens' sales are expected to rocket by 67%, reaching 67 million units sold worldwide.

“Hispasat has been the first satellite operator to broadcast Ultra HD in Latin America and since 2013 we are free-to-air broadcasting a 4K channel throughout Europe. The Hispasat 4K network is also available for North and Central America and will soon launch in Latin America,” said Espinós.
