HDMI(DVI) issue

Despite what image is on - friends DM800 HD (clone) has the following issue:

Scart works fine

DVI/Component displays static on the screen and no audio (something is being output as otherwise he would get a blank screen on his TV)

There appears to be no pattern to this although it will randomly start to work again.

As it's a HD box naturally he wants to use DVI <> HDMI - not crappy SCART!!

What could it be?

Thanks

Well if the connection to the TV and 800 is secure and youl say the fault comes and goes id start with another cable.

Have you tried another HDMI socket on the TV?

I've rebooted the box - changed HDMI sockets on the TV - resecured the cable etc.

Could it be a dodgy cable or dodgy tuner/output, overheating etc?

Box is on thru the day but on standby

If you have no issues when running it from the scart then i doubt its overheating or tuner. Try it on scart for a while and see.

If it work start with a new hdmi cable if that does not work it could be the 800.

Are you sure when your using the HDMI your matching what you set it to to the spec of your TV 720p etc ?

Have something similar here with my DM800 and LG TV. What i think the issue is the handshake between the DM800 and the TV. If i wiggle the DVI connector in and out a few times whilst watchingthe TV the screen re-appears.
Tried the DM800 on a different TV and all ok ..so looks like a TV issue with the handshaking

I'll get him to check out with a new cable.

I have read that there's nothing special about the cable provided as the 'fix' to do audio over the DVI connection is actually done within the box so a new cable should be fine.

The HDMI option worked originally so I'm guessing I have the right settings? Surely nothing would cause it to change at a random point?

Aaahhhh, curiously enough my TV is also LG!!

Is there any options within your TV that you've tried? I might see if that has an effect?

I have a LG42LF65 or something like that .. its a 1080p but its about 2 years old .. was looking for some firmware to load to the TV but can't find anything :(

tried many options on the TV but no joy ... also have other boxes connected to the TV via HDMI and no issue .. just seems something between the DM800 and the TV

yep - Virgin HD box is great, never had an issue with the Xbox - just seems to be the DM800. Is yours a clone RObxxx7?

Could it be something within the system putting the DVI output on sleep and then not waking it up? Just strange that it still outputs static!!

Can't understand it!

no its a genuine dm800, its been happening on mine for about 2 months now ... what does occasionally work for me is that i turn the DM800 on out of standby and leave it for about 30secs-1 minute then switch sources on the TV and about 60 % of the time it will come on OK

oh ok - at least I can't blame it on the fact its a clone.

Will try that and also try a new lead to clear up any issues there - I presume you've changed and tried a different lead?

Hi
My samsung LCD TV was working fine with clone DM800 connected on HDMI input. I have only one HDMI input in my TV.
Now I moved to image builded with the new Kernel and I start to have problems.
1. When I switch on my TV it takes 4 to 5 mn before to have the DM800 image on the screen.
2. Time to time the TV crash with this message.
Mode not supported.
The DM800 still continue to work normally.I can managed it with my laptop.
My DM800 is configured with DVI output and resolution 720.
I tried with 1080 and a problem is a same.
I never had this problem before.

Regards

I've experimented with different images for bootloader 76 and they both have the same issue I have described above. It is something to do with the mode unless I am lucky and its just a dodgy cable :)

I have exactly the same problem with my Samsung tv. Put the image into the box with drivers "dreambox-dvb-modules_2.6.18-7.3-dm800-20100623" and it should work perfectly :)

UPDATE: I have opened the unit to discover the internal fan wasn't connected.

This has now been done so I'm hoping it might make a difference?

Now the fan stays on :(
