Sports broadcaster ESPN has confirmed it will cease covering the international versions of its X Games extreme sports events. The X Games, owned by ESPN, features youth-focussed extreme sports such as skateboarding, BMX, moto-cross and extreme ski-ing and snowboarding. The X Games themselves take place twice a year in Summer and Winter versions.

For the International series of events ESPN retained dedicated teams of technicians and commentators to cover the games which take place in various cities including Barcelona, Munich, Tignes (France) and Brazil. The International events have traditionally been broadcast on ESPN itself and ESPN-2. The US-based X Games will continue as normal.

“We are proud to have run world-class competitions for both the athletes and spectators; however, the overall economics of these events do not provide a sustainable future path,” an ESPN spokeswoman said in a statement.
