Food Network goes to Portugal
09.25 Europe/London, October 4, 2011 By Robert Briel

Food Network will be available in HD on Portugal’s ZON Multimedia beginning Monday October 10. The channel is already carried on Portugal Telecom and through Vodafone’s Casa IPTV channel.

Food Network will be available to all ZON HD pack digital subscribers. The deal was brokered by Louise Cottrell for Food Network EMEA’s distribution partner, Chello Zone.

“On the eve of our second anniversary, we could not be more pleased with the growth and accomplishments of Food Network,” said Bob Baskerville, General manager for Scripps Networks International. “ZON Multimedia joins Food Network’s growing global roster of affiliates in 81 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, while our launch in Indonesia represents Food Network Asia’s fifth territory and validates the appeal Asian viewers have for our brand.”

Food Network was launched at MIPCOM 2009. “In just the past few months, Food Network has broken new ground in Ireland, and strengthened its presence in both the UK and Portugal,” said Nick Thorogood, Managing Director of Food Network EMEA. “We have been in Portugal less than a year and the response to the network has been huge. The Portuguese market clearly embraces the Food Network brand, and we are delighted to work with ZON in offering the channel to their subscribers.”
