13:00pm By the Light of the Silvery Moon (U) 1953

A soldier returns from World War One to his small American home town and causes disruption in his sweetheart's household by trying to postpone their wedding. Lively romantic musical comedy, a sequel to On Moonlight Bay, starring Doris Day, Gordon MacRae and Leon Ames.

15:10pm Boomerang (PG) 1947

21:00pm My Best Friend's Wedding (12) 1997

Sparkling, hugely popular comedy, starring Julia Roberts as a food critic who is devastated to hear her best friend is getting married, and sets out to wreck his relationship. Cameron Diaz and Dermot Mulroney co-star as the bride and groom-to-be, with a scene-stealing performance by Rupert Everett as Roberts' colleague and confidant, who also gets roped into the plot — most memorably when leading a rousing rendition of I Say a Little Prayer around the dinner table.

23:00pm Shaft (18) 2000

Samuel L Jackson plays a maverick detective who vows to catch a racist criminal suspected of murdering an innocent black man. However, the only witness is reluctant to talk, and the killer turns out to be from a very wealthy family, leaving the tough-talking cop to quit the force and bring down the culprit on his own terms. Publicist Billy Crystal is faced with disaster when Tinseltown's golden couple break up just as their new film is released, so is forced to hurl himself into attempts to get them back together and boost box-office takings. Entertaining romantic comedy that takes a few neat swipes at the gloss and glamour of Hollywood along the way, but lacks the essential bite to make it a classic. The top-drawer cast also includes John Cusack, Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Christopher Walken .

Kay Walsh and Ralph Truman also star.

A large family move to a new town, hoping it'll be the fresh start they need — but nothing goes according to plan, and unlucky dad Steve Martin is soon left to look after the twelve rowdy kids. Threadbare family comedy which pales in comparison to the 1950 original and leaves Martin struggling with the implausible plot and paper-thin jokes. Bonnie Hunt, Piper Perabo, Tom Welling and Hilary Duff co-star. An equally unimpressive sequel followed two years later.

16:20pm The League of Gentlemen (U) 1960

Nothing to do with the television comedy of the same name, this nail-biting crime caper takes a subtle approach to action that's lacking from most films these days, making it a hugely enjoyable affair. It follows the antics of former Army colonel Jack Hawkins, who's left furious when the top brass insist on his retirement — and sets out to exact an elaborate revenge by blackmailing ex-servicemen into taking part in a robbery plotted with military precision. The addition of a sly sense of humour is a bonus, as are Hawkins' co-stars, including Nigel Patrick, Richard Attenborough, Roger Livesey, Bryan Forbes and Kieron Moore.

Solid domestic drama designed to leave viewers in floods of tears. Ed Harris stars as a divorced businessman whose ex-wife makes it plain she's not keen on the new woman in his life. A woman nearing the end of her tether thanks to her dead-end job, slovenly husband and the trivialities of small-town life finds herself drawn toward a disaffected youth with a refreshing attitude.
