Eutelsat joins HbbTV consortium
08.10 Europe/London, July 13, 2011 By Chris Dziadul

Eutelsat Deutschland has expanded its commitment to hybrid TV by joining the pan-industry HbbTV consortium.

Eutelsat has been active in the hybrid TV market for several years and is currently preparing for the launch of its hybrid value-added service for KabelKiosk by this autumn.

KabelKiosk includes a variety of interactive offerings, and under a “White Label” approach can be marketed by operators across a variety of HbbTV-enabled devices.

KabelKiosk enables easy and cost-effective distribution of German and international channels by cable and IPTV networks.

Its offer includes the BasisHD package, consisting of 35 SD and five HD channels, offered free of charge, as well as a pay-TV element.

HbbTV was launched in April 2009 and gained the support of Eutelsat eight months later.
