Enigma or not?

Morning all and season's greetings,

Quick reminder that this time last year my IP9000HD was dead,
away for repair.Back last February, installed NLB 9207 and it's been running OK ever since ( cross fingers) but without a Sky EPG which only shows now end next. So why fix it it if ain't broke?

That's my question.

What's the benefit of upgrading to Enigma2, and I don't mean in terms of a flashy interface, but in terms of improving image quality, added functionality etc? Or what's the benefit of upgrading NLB which I understand is no longer supported.

Thanks all,

TerD ( interested to see the number of 9OOOHD's out there,
polled as 97 in this forum to date)

Don't talk nonsense, the NLB is developed and will be in the future. Subtitles problem could only be fixed by DGS , latest firmware releases are addressing this.
Next NLB will have those fixes too.

In Enigma2 you have the CrossEPG plugin that can display Sky UK and IT EPG, so no problem whatsoever.

Thanks Grizzly,

Good to hear that NLB continues, but my question was is it worth moving to E2 and will it add anything more than the latest version of NLB?

Upgrade your flash image to latest sifteam DGS based with multiboot installed

Then get a 2gb usb stick & load latest Enigma2 on it

So you have best of both worlds

Or you could load basic flash image of E2 & if you dont like it reflash with DGS

I run E2 (SIFTeam enigma2 extreme edition *beta5b*)in flash and E2 PKT7.1 on USB. The SIFTEAM beta 5b has superb functionality for setting up both the hard drive aand USB and recognises all drives I have thrown at it. It also has integrated multi-boot. If you are used to dreambox you can copy your satellite / service stuff across using dreambox edit.

I use E2 just because its quicker than dgstation images.

Only downside for me is I like to listen to music and E2 has problems with playing back mp3's, in that it crashes alot.

My only question is that te E2 images don't appear to be capable of using twin tuner capability yet - unless this is to do with my tuner configuration so I could do with some help here myself. Catseye can you please confirm if you can watch one channel and record another with an E2 image ?

As far as i know it works on FTA channels but not on scrambled channels yet

Im sure one of the experts will find a fix for it;)

You can record one FTA channel and watch one ppv chanell at same time no problem...
However enigma2 has ploblems when it needs to decode 2 encrypted channels at same time. you can however do this if both chanels are on same transponder.....
This is a Problem with Enigma2 Not the Emu's.

Hope this helps..

Happy New Year and Have Fun...:newyear:...

Thanks to all,

It's almost a year since I put this version of NLB on my IP Box but it has shown remarkable stability.I get cable EPG but not sky, which is now and next.

From your replies it looks though E2 is still experimental, doesn't really convince me to upgrade. Does it give a better image? I don't know (I have an HDMI output to a fill HD lcd tv, I guess upscaled to 1080i by the IP BOX).

My 500 g Samsung is working fine.

I guess you really have to see E2 - are there any links to demos?

Regards and Happy New Year to all

Hi,

I have tried E2 image and SIF image but the boot times take very long and not as stable as NLB. Resorted to NLB image which is very stable and using panel have I found to be the best . I always have loaded into flash .Looking for the lastest NLB for flash NLB AB 9000HD r11453

Cheers

E2 Conclusions

Thanks all and a Happy New Year to
IP Box fans!

Here's what I conclude from your excellent input

- E2 is still experimental, heavy and apart from extra glitzy features that do not necessarily contribute to image quality worth a miss until it becomes robust and stable (or at least until someone can explain whether it improves image quality and box performance)
- For me ( and I have tried original DGS, SIFteam, NLB), NLB has always been the lightest, fastest to reboot and the most predictable in terms of performance and quality (even though the version I have was stripped down to take out extra skins)

So, GrizzlyT, when can we expect a new, stable version of NLB that hopefully will take me through this New Year ?
