Eclipse exec welcomes fibre optic broadband rivalry

Monday, November 29th 2010

The ongoing feud between BT and Virgin Media has been hailed by Clodagh Murphy.
Eclipse Internet's business director has insisted the fibre optic broadband battle between BT and Virgin Media can help smaller internet service providers (ISPs).

The feud between the two companies has been bubbling over recently, with a BT spokesperson telling IT Pro that Virgin Media is guilty of hypocrisy in the latter's Stop the Broadband Con campaign.

Speaking to tech news site V3, Clodagh Murphy of Eclipse stated the rivalry is "great news for the industry" and declared the market is big enough for all ISPs to get involved.

Ms Murphy claimed BT's super-fast broadband offering - BT Infinity - is helping to draw attention to the likes of Eclipse, explaining: "There's enough out there for all of us.

"For a portion of the population, BT is not right."

Commenting on the advantages she feels Eclipse has over its larger rivals, the director added some consumers welcome the opportunity to speak to a UK call centre and know 70 per cent of issues will be resolved "at the first point of contact".
